So I finally made it all the way through the war in an IL-2 campaign, original version of the game. All it did was show me a video of a guy crashing his Il into the runway and losing half a wing in the process. He then stops his engine after driving around the airfield (off the aprons) and it says "The War Is Over!". And that's it!

I seriously expected something more out of the ending... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I thought this was going to be another FO3 thread.
I don't recall ever completing the original campaign.

I was going through the New Guinea campaign flying P40's, got 15 missions in then had heavy landing. I spent several years in hospital then got posted to a Spitfire squadron and the war ended before I could fly a mission!

Talk about disapointed! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I completed the original Bf109 campaign. I only got 13 missions into the IL-2 campaign and 8 missions into the VVS fighter campaign. I was thinking about restarting the IL-2 campaign in the latest version, but there are so many other campaigns that I want to play through first.

This game can be played offline too?

What is this "offline" you speak of?

Lol....well makes sense though, and even the OP's post does. Chalk it up to the realities of war be it missing out on it languishing in a hospital bed trying to recover (and medicine today is MUCH different), to even when the politicians decide it's over you're left standing there suddenly made obsolete.

What did you expect? A parade?....Real vets have even greater woes to deal with after.

LOL offline?.......I'd love to finish a campaign myself, but i cant sit thru those long waypoints..And now to find out that after a long campaign and long waypoints to be handed an ending like that gives me more reason not to finish. I guess auto pilot and "time advance" is a good thing....Just wish there was a way to cut and edit all those waypoints in half....Not surprised at the ending you got FoeHammer, happens in real life too. No party, no parades, no dancing girls jumping outta victory cakes....boohoohttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif But ya might get an 80 cent piece of bronze called a "medal of honor"....lol

Wait until you get home and find the house bombed and wife gone with some German officer. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

An ending similar to-

After 'crashing his Il into the runway and losing half a wing in the process. He then stops his engine after driving around the airfield (off the aprons) and it says "The War Is Over!". And that's it!

'But wait we weren't the only major power to beat those pesky Germans, the Americans are now in the way of our world domination program for there can only be one superpower.
After you get out of hospital, due to the horrific injuries you just sustained your services and vast experience will be sorely needed to defeat the American superpower.
In the interval many new planes have been developed for you to try out so buckle up and take to the skies again!'

That really only happens in Movies but there is no reason for a simulator not to mimic this style of fantasy.

It pretty easy to modify the configuration to get short missions. There are heaps of threads about it.

I actually liked the long missions, especially as a lower echelon pilot, good formation flying practice. Also when you finally complete a longer campaign (300 odd missions or so) it really feels like you have achieved something.

As for the original topic, I agree the game is lacking in that regard. A short video sequence each time you get a promotion or awarded a medal and a going home sequence at the end would really help. Of course if you fought for the axis the end sequence is not exactly going to be a celebration.

Congrats on finishing the whole WW2 campaign. I did once, when I started the career with the last part of the campaign and got wounded in my second mission... other than that, I quit. The menues would start to stutter when you got a couple of 100 kills, I found it too annoying.

Well, that said, the entertainment value of Il-2 campaigns should come from the flying, the inserted movies are not good for anything.
