I am playing IL2 Original - anyone have handy tips on fighting against the LA5FN - apparently this russian bird is better than the 109G6.

Thanks
Shelton

German experts considered the La5fn the most dangerous threat on the Eastern Front in the summer and autumn of 1943. When one was force landed in enemy territory, it was repaired by the Luftwaffe and tested extensively. The resulting report was clearly intended to reassure German pilots, as the Soviet fighter was described as " rather primitive" and "not completely equipped", and as having "unreliable equipment, a rudimentary sight and a very troublesome hydraulic system"."

Best to stay way up high - above 6000m you should be able to get some advantage, though with IL2's smaller horizon (compared to FB) it is easy to become disoriented at high altitude.
Note that the G6 is regarded as the least handy of the 109 stable (exception being the AS)

la-5fn is overmodel in climb, she can better climb as la-7

climb in game
la-7 climb 4,3min to 5000m
la-5fn 3,8min to 5000m

real climb 43 la-5fn 5,2min,she has only 2min wep can not use wep for whole climb to 5000m

and la-7 4,5min,because 10wep,
it seem she has improvement cooling performance

and la-5fn seem too better to turn as la-7

real was la-7 better turner, because better aerodynamic, lose less ernergie as la-5fn by turn

g2 was better climber as la-5fn

5000m in 4,1min without wep,but in game need she 5min

climb was only chance to survive with g6 or g2 against good la-5fn pilot,

but not against this overmodel bird

fly a5 this is better choice 43 server

the G6 in il2 is simply crap. worse than in real life..

Read his post. He's not playing FB. The truth is, in IL2 you have little chance of beating the La5FN with a G6. Unless your a super pilot, and the La5FN pilot is lame.

You keep talking about that climb rate. I get 4.13 for the La5FN to 5000m. Where is your track proving your time?

Yes, the La-5FN is (far) better than the 109G6

The lower you are, the more in trouble you are.

Stay high and fast if you want to (perhaps) have a (slight) chance of taking him down.

The 190A (any versions but the A8 is the best) would be a much better choice to fight the La-5FN (particularly because of its roll rate).

La5FN will always win, unless it has bad pilot.
