Hi,

Here is a selection of photos I took on the flight line at Flying Legends, Duxford, today.

I took about 35minutes of video too, but I've yet to edit all that. I'll post it another time.

That's one of the new-builds right? Oh well, I guess it's better than nothing. But having to use a Chinese copy of a Russian engine in a German fighter is a shame.

Great shots. I'm a bit jealous, well actually more than a bit. Ah well, won't be long now and Reno will be around again.

In your last shot there is a bi-plane just taking off or landing. If you got any good pics of the pre war stuff please share.

Great post Hanglands http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

You must have got there early to get the 'close-up' photo opportunities.

In fact, your pics are almost as good as mine on this board!

Thanks again,

Nothing looks better than a Spitfire V (except another Spitfire V).

Where did that P-40B or C come from? Holy cow! Had no idea there was one left. What a beauty.

Great work, H.

Any more pics of that French plane glimpsed in the corner of one of the pics? Looks like a Curtiss. Also, got any shots showing the real colours on that Desert Spit. It looked surprisingly vivid but the lighting made it hard to see. Thanks for the pics - what a line up!

The P40 is a Pearl Harbor survivor. It was a hanger queen at the time of the attack I believe. I just read an article about it in an aviation magazine, though I can't remember which mag, 'cuz I can't find it.

the planeset is similar to an IL-2 online DF-Server....Spitfire, Spitfire, Spitfire, Spitfire, P-51, P-51, P-51 .... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The Aircraft with the french markings is a very rare Curtiss H-75 A-1.

I was at legends yesterday too, and it was quite amazing as usual. I was distraught when i found out the 190 would not be flying but i stood admiring it for about 20mins anyway, then later paid 20squids to sit in it for a while, well worth it. It was a great day, with beautiful weather, i got a nice tan!

The only thing bugged me was these little tiny bugs that were everywhere, crawling on everybodys skin. They were unstoppable but then later disappeared. Horrible itchy creatures that got everywhere. Anyone know anything about them?

Highlight of the show for me was probably the Bearcat display, one of the best. Oh yea, and everything else. Found a couple of good books cheap too, "Alert in the west" and "Tales of a war pilot". Anyone read these?

The P38 was making the trip with newly restored TF-51 Miss Velma but didnt make it mate, one of her engines went kaput before flying to greenland. One of the biggest disapointments for me. That would of been something!

Very nice indeed Hanglands. Was that a model E 109 next to the 190? If so, anyone know what paint scheme it had?

@danjama - I've spent many summers on RAF airbases that always seem to have these 'Thunderbugs', as we used to call them, infesting you throughout the summer. Small irritating black things aren't they.
I think they might be these...

Fantastic pics, thanks for posting. How lucky were we with the weather this weekend?

Look forward to seeing some more.

That 109's a Buchon which would make it a G2 airframe.

I've had a couple of those crawl in behind my monitor and die in the display. Annoying little black dots that look like planes at a distance! That'll teach me to play on a warm evening with the windows open http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I thought I'd add the best of my meagre attempts at photography to this thread, by Hanglands leave.

Had a good day on Saturday, had an all too brief chat with blairgowrie, promising I'd catch up with them later and not being able to find them, and met Uther.

On with the pics.

Yea they're the little buggers. Me and the girlfriend had them all over us, quite itchy at times, but fun to squash for about 20 seconds. I was concerned at first as i'd never seen them before at Duxford, despite visiting for quite a few years, concern wore off when i noticed that probably every person was covered http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Bloody awesome mate!

i153! WOW!

WHats the other RUssian plane? Is it a Yak or an La? Looks somehow a cross between the two to me. SOrt of a La with a bubble canopy or a Yak with a radial.

The SPit XIV looks menacing, and I love the Spitfire Vc(4) too. Desert colours are cool.

The FW190 looks just like the real thing, the La engine doesnt matter at all IMO. Looks much better than the Buchon 109.

The Yak is a Yak3 with a radial; it's a proper beast when it displays, he really chucks it round. Awesome roll rate.

There was also a Yak-11 there, static only. It's two-seat trainer version of the -3.

I have never seen a photo of a Seafury before. I am surprised at just how much the Sea Fury looks like a Bearcat.

Did they swap ideas as they were designing these two planes>? Judging by the looks, it seems like there was a lot of collaboration.

Nice work Stathem http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Some great shots of group fly-bys there !

Im glad to see somebody got a shot of the lovely wing walking birds http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

I think I must have been stood quite near you then, cos for a while I was up by the B-25 as those birds walked by. I was with the bloke who said in a bit-too-loud voice "Take a breath darlin' for f***s sake" when the female commentator went on and on about the F-15.

Im on a half day from work today, and so will continue editing all my video clips down to something half decent.

In the meantime, heres a few more, including (I think) the French job somebody mentioned earlier :

That's the mystic "Vergeltungs-Waffe" (V-weapon). It's biological and works very slow, so still a few can believe in "Endsieg" (ultimate victory) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I must have walked past you at some point then, I was moving fairly quickly down the flight line by that point. The USAAF Heritage Flyby was superb, mind you I was stood right under a tannoy and I'd have rather heard the Spits taking off than Green Day.

Just a couple more. The Gladiator at Old Warden the day before;

I don't think there was any conscious collaboration; I think they are alike by virtue of that thing, there's probably a name for it, where successive designs towards the ideal become more alike - the Bearcat and Sea Fury represent the very pinnacle of radial piston engined fighter design. It's a bit like biological evolution.

And the Bearcat and Sea Fury were both influenced by a certain other fighter that was present but not flying at FL.

Ah yes, The Shuttleworth Collection. Great place. I really want to get to one of their flying evenings that they sometimes do on a Saturday.

Well, HERE (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AjVgPaLkQHg) is the first video I've assembled from they jerky, blurry, selection of clips I managed to take. Ive edited it as best as I can, all I can say in my defence is it was my first proper use of that camera, I was tired and hungover with the DTs, and I didnt realise I was filming at too high a resolution and only got 11fps out of it. (much like Il-2 if you have a rig like mine!)

Regards.

Some wonderful displays http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think the high lights for me; or at least things I hadn't seen before, were the Mustang and Spit "Chase me Charlie" demos (I have to be honest and say the Mustang three ship put a bit more into it, It was great!);Russian biplane (What was it?) the Corsair two ship and the B25 - I had no idea they could be chucked around like that.

And the Ju-52's were awesome! What a thing to see.

There was no collaboration between Grumman and Hawker. The F8F was designed by Bill Schwendler and the Grumman engineering team, with additional input from test pilots Bob Hall and Bud Gillies, both of whom flew a captured Fw 190 in England in 1943. The superficial resemblance you see may be due to the "humpback" fuselage, which was a frequent Grumman design feature but was not unique to Grumman planes.

Personally I think the Sea Fury has more in common with a Corsair, despite the visual dissimilarity.
