For the 1st time a couple of nights ago, I joined a few games and created a few games online (57k modem). It was something new and quite a lot of fun (Saw and sunk my 1st liner too http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The pings however, were quite high. Others pings showed to me as being in the 300 to 500ms range and mine (from South Africa) were around 700 to 800ms. I know in IL2, this would be unplayable.

The games seemed perfectly stable to me and the wolfpack proceeded to sink the enemy with no problems. No one on the in-game chat complained about lag.

When I created games, all seemed well but some ppl joined, saw the ping, cursed/complained and left without even trying it. Those that stayed seemed to have no problems. Once, an attacking DD seemed to jink a bit, but otherwise I never experienced any lag.

How critical are the pings in SH3 on UBI/ online in general? What ping level would be considered unplayable?

I would guess it isn't that critical compared to flight sims. In flight sims the action is much faster than in naval sims, making packet loss/lag that much more noticable.
