View Full Version : Good news! P-63 is DONE! Now my NEXT project!

Oleg has been buggin me for some time, but now its time to start. My next project is the Spitfire Mk V! YES BRITISH FANS!!! YOU WILL GET YOUR SPIT! That just sounds bad. Anyways, I have an almost complete model from Biggs I will need to re-work and texture. Also Fievel and I with Jeronimo's help will work on the cockpit. If all goes well, it should be done in a month.

Also, I plan to work on the PBY side-by-side with the Spit. It should be done around December. A X-mas present for those who donated! Also, I started work on the blisters just for fun. Looking very good! I will make some renders for those who are on my donation list and send them off soon.

I will also have some screen shots of the finished P-63 up for my Friday update this week. Look for them at Netwings.org.

One last note. I remember someone posting that they would give any modeler a Radeon 9800 or GeForce FX 5900 video card to whoever models the Spit. Well daddy needs a new vid card! Whoever it was, you can E-mail me at gibbage@gibbageart.com

Before you guys say "He is modeling the Spit for the card", wrong. I tried for a month to get any of the other modelers to do a Spit, but none would take. Now I need to finish it. Also, just to give you guys an idea of what to look forward to, here is a Spit V I did for CFS3.

I wont be able to use the same model, but I think I can use that texture. Snorri did a wonderful job on it.

Yay! P-63 is great addition to the game, thanks Gibbage! I don't particularly care for the Spit, but at least the Spit hungry masses will be sated. (did that sound bad?)
PB-Y should add something cool to the experience as well. Thanks again!

Lets run down a list here of aircraft I have done.

PBY Catalina
Go-229
P-80
P-38
P-63

Future projects
Do-335
Spit V
PBY flyable

I have been very busy, but I could not have done it without some VERY important people.

Snorri for his textures
Capt. FlushGarden for his textures
Jeronimo for his work on the P-38 pit
Everyone who has donated money and resources

And YOU! Everyone in this comunity encourages me to do this. Truth be told, I could be making TWICE the money doing CFS3 stuff. But my heart is with IL2, its comunity, and Oleg.

As for the Do-335 progress, Oleg's wishes overrule all http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Its on pause till the Spits done. Sorry Do Fans.

So, a IX, the Soviet got also a lot of them.

It's a matter of personal taste, but the asymetrical installation of the radiators on the V is plain ugly!

By the way, the VIII would perfectly fit with the Ki-84 as many VIII's were used by the Australians against Japanese aircrafts.

Nice to see the spit will definatly be in at some point. Should allow for a real western front fights. As stands now looks like we will have 2xP-51D, 3xP-47D's, P-38J, Some Spits, Hurricanes, P-40E and Tempest. Seems fairly complete to me as far as fighters are concerned.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

That is good news Gib!

Not particularly a fan of the spit, but it was indeed sorely missing in Il-2/FB.

Having said that, another aircraft that is sorely missing in Il-2/FB & that I have a hard time figuring out why it is still missing and nothing seems to be progressing is the Do-17Z-2. It was present in decent numbers on the Eastern Front, hence is an important A/C for the plane set. I knew someone was working on it, but it was dropped at some point. Anyone has an update ?? I know that Halfwit is basically done with his Do 217E/K, but the Do 17Z-2 is also required for the FB plane set.

Do not get me wrong, I am not simply whinning as I do not have any artistic abilities, but I do support modellers, sometime with financial donations. ie. flyable Do 335

Cheers,

Do 217P

B-25, A-20, Ju-88, Pe-2, B-26, etc. were all used as tactical bombers. The only true strategic bombers to see widespread use would be the U.S. and R.A.F. heavies, but even these saw occasional use in the tactical role.

FINALLY, the King Cobra is finished. Nice.

Also nice to see there' beeing worked on the Spit V again - it's one of the spits that flew in bigger numbers on the EF, too, so it definately makes sense. Not to forget the upcoming WF maps /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

How about a P-47M?? Should be a quite simple modifying job, more simple than P-39 -> P-63. You should do it, if you have the time for it... there's a biiig thread about it in ORR. That would be the jug ppl fly as a fighter then, because this one is really capable of doing some DFing. High ROC, speed and acceleration coupled with the Jug's toughness... that would be an awesome flight for sure.

Thanks Gib. Outdone yourself again. Some folks feel ETO and the like has been done to death, but I definitely want to see it with Oleg's touch for grahics. Every plane that can double for that is most assuredly welcome.

Now, if only I could get that Merlin to sound right. Might be a long time before I pry my butt from my heavily-modified lawn chair (amr rests are a great place for the throttle).

Christmas will be special this year.

Thanks.

Tempting, but I dont like the D-XXI's design. Its ugly to me. I understand everyone has there aircraft they want, and so do I. I may take you up on this later, but you can post your offer on the NEtwings forum for the rest of the modelers. One suggestion. Payment on completion and acceptance by Oleg, no sooner. With how many projects get dumped, I would be suprised if it got finished by anyone who was not a vet modeler. Also, would you have any performance data on it? Oleg would need that data unless you want AI only.

First, let me say this. I dont NEED donations to make the Spit. I have all the materials I need, and more. I have real spits within diving distance I can visit any time I wish. Also, I doubt the Spit will be in a free add-on.

BUT! Donations are ALWAYS welcome http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I can always use the extra money. I just want you to know the money would most likley be spent on beer and porn http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Or new hardware to help make my job easier. Whatever I have money enough for. Lol.

Gib

(EDIT) Send beer and porn donation to gibbage@lycos.com (/EDIT)

I never did like Jap aircraft. Only one i could consider modeling is the Shinden. I love its design! Its still hard to believe they put a radial in such a sleek design. I think it was the apex of design, but a little to late. I wonder how the P-55 would have matured if it had a proper engine and was in production? It was just too advanced in 1940's and the engine it was made for got cancled. It had to be suited with a much weaker allison. The stability probles were fixed, but its performance due to its weak engine and its radical design kept it from production.

THANK YOU,THANK YOU THANK YOU......
I DON'T THINK THE SPITFIRE WAS THE BEST FIGHTER OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR,I HAVE ALWAYS UNDERSTOOD THAT IT WAS A SOLID AND BASICALLY RELIABLE AIRFRAME WHICH COULD BE EASILY ADAPTED TO WARTIME MODIFICATIONES AND IMPROVEMENTS.BUT ONE THING IS CERTAIN,AND THAT IS THAT IT REPRESENTED-OR HAS COME TO REPRESENT-NOT ONLY AN AIRCRAFT WHICH BEGAN THE WAR BUT ONE THAT FINISHED IT TOO (NO MEAN FEAT GIVEN THE TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS),BUT ALSO IN SOME ALMOST UNDEFINABLE WAY THE "SPIRIT"OF RESISTANCE OF THE BRITISH NATION-HOW MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE HEARD ONE HAVE HAD THE HAIRS ON THE ARMS STAND UP ON END..?WHY?BECAUSE OF IT'S LINES? I DON'T THINK SO (AND I'M NOT BRITISH).OTHERS MIGHT SAY THE SAME ABOUT OTHER AIRCRAFT-AND THEY'D BE RIGHT,BECAUSE TO THEM THAT AIRCRAFT REPRESENTS WHAT TO ALMOST AN ENTIRE NATION THE SPITFIRE REPRESENTS,AND,STILL REPRESENTS AND SYMBOLISES.GIBBAGE,YOU'VE TAKEN ON A HUGE TASK IN ACCEPTING THIS PROJECT-THAT'S PROBABLY A REASON(ONE OF MANY I'M SURE) WHY NO-ONE ELSE WANTED IT,NOT ONLY WILL YOU BE MODELING AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC BUT ALSO A SYMBOL OF BRITAIN. I WISH YOU LUCK AND LIKE MANY WILL BE EAGERLY AWAITING ALL YOUR UPDATES (I EAGERLY AWAIT ALL UPDATES,BUT SORRY ALL,THIS IS SPECIAL).THANK YOU.

P.S. good work for getting a Spit into this game; are we getting SpitIX? if so prepare "UBER" debates, just like with LA7.

Gibb. Thank God! a spitfire. Now I can die happy. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
But.. it was my understanding that although altogether more mk.Vs were built than any other model..
Russia recieved 137 mk.Vs and 50 in spares.. However.. it received a whopping 1188 mk.IXs!!

So i would of thought it'd make more sense to model the latter? As i'm sure you know.. the Mk.IX was simply a mk.V airfrane with a merlin 61..

So, if you should change your mind.. all that would need changing is the Radiator exhausts!! (armament was the same.. 2 cannons and 4 303s)

Also it means that we could have a spit that could hold it's own.. The Mk.IX was able to meet the fw190 on level terms in 1942 but the mk.V was really outclassed very quickly.

But I'm british.. i can't help it! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif It would be nice to have a spit that could.. in skilled hands.. be used succesfully online (without the uberness that the mk.XIV will, i'm sure; display)

Just dreamin' here.. ideal scenarios and all that.. but I guess Oleg has the last word..

But kudos to you! You've made my year!
