At least lets get SoW out of the way and the whiners to finish their dirges before another sim is considered http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

You know never mind the seventh anniversary of the Battle of Britain this baby might not surface till the tenth anniversary of IL2 .Still its soooo far ahead of the rest as it is you wouldnt care to rush BOB anymore especially with MODS .
I played over a desert map with sun glistening on sea at 2560x1600 res with overclock of 4.2(remember game is cpu limited) recently and it was an almost religious experience ...

The SOW series will be a work in progress for many years, as they complete most theaters of WW2. Maybe after Luthier completes the Korean War addon for the SOW engine, he could either go beyond the Korean War or back to the first World War.

Who knows, but the SOW engine will be baring fruit for many many years UNLESS sales are poor and people are stealing the software. I hope are community is smart enough not to kill the golden goose.

I agree that the SOW engine will be by far the next benchmark in combat flight simming, but don't agree that we will be waiting years for it to come out.

The developer probably has enough money to last until the end of this year or maybe a few months beyond. If this is the case he will be under incredible pressure to release what he can with a feature or two held back until the next addon. I think there is a 95% chance that we will see a release of SOW between Nov of this year and March of next year. Pure speculation of course.

Actually it's a really good question you ask.

I have been looking a lot recently at the renders at the Military Meshes site, and they are so much more detailed than the planes we willl be seeing in SoW:BoB.

I can't help wonder how a sim would look with extremely high resolution aircraft. I like the ones we see in Tochy's videos:

This will be the next step after SoW.BoB, and I certainly hope I'm around to see what happens in that period 10-15 years post the SoW:BoB release.
I wonder if Oleg will still have any interest in developing the genre.

I have no idea what arena Oleg would chose to start this hypothetical next generation sim. Maybe by that time, after covering all the other combat arenas in the SoW series, it will be time to get back to BoB again.

Maybe the SoW engine will be so well designed that it will be able to cope with this high level of detail; when then appropriate computing power is available to make the sim playable.

This speculation of what Oleg may do 10-15 years after SoW gave me a really bad thought. Oleg is not old but he's no young man either, and any of us could step in front of a bus at any time, what would the flight sim community do if/when we loose Oleg?!

He will catch everybody(*) by surprise and acquire a licence for the Wing Commander franchise!

(* certainly including himself)

I vote for Oleg doing some steam punk. Its about time we got a chance to cook up a few imperial juggernaut airships in our trusty privateer Se5's.

Well I think that considering that SoW may very well last at least a few years... that is waaaay too much speculation for me.

Dont forget... SoW:BoB is just the first installment of the SoW series.

I think he's going to take a vacation. That's what I would do, at least.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. He isn`t getting any younger and I have a feeling this is why he`s going to put EVERYTHING into this sim. After that it`s going to be ADD-ONS.

I`m not even going to think what his next major project might be, but it`ll be something much simplier and easier to complete, I reckon and after that delegation from a distance.

Well praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. I think at this point we would all be better served wondering what the addon after Korea would be for SOW.

Personally, I'm hoping Spanish Civil War.

How about a add-on tank sim or FPS sim that can connect with IL-2? Then flight simmer and tank simmer can fight together in one large map http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif .

Bomber and ground attack pilots will have much more interesting work to do, i guess http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif .

Unfortunately game developers tend to listen to the people who bark loudest on forums ... and the sort of people who whine on forums always want newer and faster.

I too would love to see a serious SCW sim but history shows flight sim games invariable move forward in time from the point of the first release.

Salute

In the past, Oleg has said the next project after BoB will be the Mediteranean, he has mentioned the Desert as part of this.

Yes the next addon is rumored to be the SOW Med.

There is no market for the Spanish Civil War, Battle of Poland or the Battle of France. The developers don't need our input to figure that out. I'm sure there are a few people interested in these battles but not enough to pay for the development time. These addons may well be made by third parties. I know that there were group[s] hoping to develop the Battle of France and Poland, but not sure if they are still around after the long delays of BOB SOW.

Fifty years of good combat simming:

10 years of IL2.
10 years of SoW in various theatres of war.
10 years of visual heaven.
10 years of my computer teaching me how to fly well.
10 years of my computer beating in every aspect of combat flying.

If each theatre takes as long as BOB to bring to sale I'll be in a home for the bewildered being fed baby food laced with valium.
