Microcenter has a 24" widscreen on sale for $299 after mail in rebate. If you have a Microcenter near you you can go and get the add then take it to Best Buy and they will match the price.... so if you are in the market for a widescreen it doesn't get much better than this as far as bang for buck. The nice thing is that by doing it this way I didn't have to do the rebate thing. I have yet to set it up.... but when I do I will post.

150 for a 24" widescreen? Good deal.

This is exactly what I use. It is a GREAT display and works beautifully with Il2. I decline to divulge just how much I payed for mine a few months ago http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif . This is a great deal. Don't let this one get away.
Mine looks a little different than the photo in the first post. My display is completely flat across the front, with no bulge where the buttons are, and the base is square without the "V" notch. Other than that Acer's 24" wide screen only comes in silver (sorry, no black), at least it did when I bought mine.

Make sure you have a good graphics card to drive its native resolution and that the monitor has a fast (good) response time for gaming.

Flat screens dont look good outside thiere native resolutions.

Looks like a good deal.

Nice one! I have been waiting sometime now for the 24" prices to drop. It'll make a great "gaming" display http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The response time is 6ms which is plenty good for gaming. As I said, Il2 looks beautiful on it. I run Il2 at 1920x1200. The other wide screen supported resolutions are as follows:
1920x1080
1680x1050
1600x900 and
1280x720

1680x1050 looks fantastic and is easily powered by my 7950GT 512MB in perfect mode with 4xAA. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Im lovin this .... Be sure!!!

WOW!!! I had no idea... I set my res to 1900x1200.. I figured I'd cut to the chase... and I still get decent frames.. 38-51.... Man o man.. this is really nice. The fact that I got it for $299 makes it even better. I may try a lower res just to see if I get a bump on the frames.... I notice I get more shimmering on the water wit this than I did on my CRT. Just think... when I was working for Best Buy back in 04 and Samsung came out with it's 20" widescreen.. and it was selling for all of $1079.99.... I remember saying to myself... "Thats too much for my blood...." Heh heh...
I am going to see if I can get a nice balance using the res that Havoc uses.. One thing though.. and I am getting ready to take this to the tech boards.. I get this shimmer on my water... it is the reflective parts.. but it seems even more reflective than on a CRT to the point where it is white.... Other than thast I have no complaints.

In the nvidia panel there is an color correction or somesuch. You should find a wizard thingy that will guide you through setting up the colors. That will usually take care of problems like that. LCD's don't seem to need as much drive as CRT's so color alignment is often necessary.

not to throw cold water - I've had two of these now. if you get the dreaded "No Signal" PM me and I might have a work-around. I'm saving to buy an "Anything but Acer" and as soon as I have I'll sell the old one cheap.

No excuse not to have one now...unless, of course, you don't have $300 cash.

Well this puppy just died on me... so ... There you have it.. the life cycle.. although truth be told I can't really remember when I bought it.. I was hoping to see something on this post with a year in the date... I think it is at least 3 or 4 years old... Maybe 5..

Can any of the original posters tell me how long ago this was..? LOL..

Bearcat, looks like 2007 is on the top of the post in these threads. What you looking to repace it with?

Yeah I just found my warranty.. it expired on August 17th... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif Where do you see the year.. I still dont see it.. Maybe I have to go into my config and change the settings.. thansk for the heads up..

I can't help but think that had I gotten an extended warranty I'd still be covered.. Then again had I gotten it it would probably still be working..

What the... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I must be either loosing it or going blind...

I could have sworn there was no year.. just the month and day...

Bearcat99

See!!!! On the post that I just made... month and day!! No year!!

I feel like William Shatner on a plane... wait there must be a logical explanation for this.. Where is the setting to change the date feature on my forum settings...

FoolTrottel
12-28-2010, 11:21 AM
Must be your forum settings, as in both posts you made, I can see the year perfectly clear...

Choose 'view public profile' via a click on your name. Then under Personal settings, Preferences, 'Show Time and Date in' ...

Extended warranty would have probably cost you at least $50 whereas the current price on a brand new equivalent is $150 so your only $100 out of pocket.

Think of it as $100 to upgrade to a new one with full warranty avoiding all the extended warranty repair/replace hassles.
