Im getting sick and tired of late-war maps over at spits vs 109s. I WANT SOMETHING NEW!!!

You won't find any. Onliners are too concerned that someone else has more virtual socks stuffed into their underpants than they have. Instead of trying anything new or interesting, they will just opt for the latest and greatest aircraft available. Warclouds is an excellent example. They've been doing the same planeset 24 hours a day for years. They are like mice on a wheel. Sheesh!

Just cheating themselves really.

I don't know if Raven's "guts and glory' server is up this days, I didn't have time to play in quite a while. But if you find it you can get plenty of byplanes action, ww1 style.

Make sure you get the skins packs from Here:
http://ravenskins.com/RaVenskinsWW1.htmlbefore joining.

Indeed. If the online furball jock's had their way we would be flying IL2 Korea by now and they would be hastling for Vietnam era jet's.

The problem with early war and prewar planes in an online environment is you need to be able to fly and need to be able to shoot to actually get results.

Unfortunately I haven't seen Raven's awesomesauce server on Hyperlobby the last couple of times I looked. Shame if it really has been taken down, I used to practice for Sea Dogs on there. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I hear ya, Afromike1. I think earlier scenarios are more fun, and prefer full-switch.. UK3 is a great option, but since I live in N America, it's usually only active if I'm on in the early afternoon (which I am able to sometimes).

I end up flying SOV pretty often as they have a fair number of earlier maps - or at least, a pretty wide variety of maps. I'd rather fly with externals disabled, but it's not a big deal to me, at least the pit is locked so it's a little harder for people to check blind spots. Altho some are obviously adept at F6.

I wonder if the guys at SOV/SOF have considered putting up a server with externals and padlock disabled, then they'd have 3 servers analogous to UK1/2/3.

But yeah, it's frustrating when you're on a good server, an early map comes on and people are like "ughhh..." and leave. Those slow fights are fun!

I guess it's one more reason to look forward to ROF.

PS - not everyone online fits the "gimme the biggest and baddest" stereotype.. we need more like you guys!

One of the greatest online missions I ever took part in was a Poland 1939 scenario. The reds were scrambling in P.11c's and clawing for altitude to cap their airfields. Stukas and 109's were coming in in waves and plastering the hangars and vehicles. The polish aircraft were mobbing the stukas, like sparrows ganging up on crows. The AAA was all over the place, while the 109's were geting overconfident and trying to turn with the P.11's, in their eagerness for a kill. It was a bloodthirsty slaughter. Real cut throat stuff. The Poles won too! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Ya I too prefer early war stuff, '42 and back. To bad that aforementioned server isn't up. What was it? Awesomesause? Those screenies look terrific with those skins... man I'd love to play that.

Yep, I never saw more than 5-10 people on at a time, but even that was great fun. The ground battles were pretty neat as well.

Those sort of characters usually cannot fly/shoot that well and need their big engines and cannon to stay out of trouble. The more they complain about "crap planes" the more likely it is they do not know how to fly anything but late war http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif More to the point many of these players are "one plane wonders" who flounder when put in anything other than there normal ride.

The real problem is that the sort of pilot that might enjoy a challenging early war dogfight server is more likely to either join a squad that is involved in an online campaign/war or just download Fortress Europe or Hurricane Season or a Spanish Civil War campaign or one of the Afrika Corp campaigns and play offline.

I dunno if it's Spits vs 109's or Winds of War. I think one of those two has a map in it's cycle that is 1940 or 41 stuff.. Mostly biplanes and the older monoplanes, I think one of the faster planes in the set is the Hurricane which in this scenario is used as a boom and zoomer of all things!

I usually take the Falco Cr.42 in this mission, can't see too well out of it but it's a fun bird to fly, turns good and it's climb isn't too bad.

Hopefully you can find this map in rotation sometime.

Don't worry we have understanding for old farts that can't manage anything faster than their own car, so reflexes leave first huh? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

@Jaws
That looks like a really fun server.
Not like the ones where you don't see an enemy coming from behind you and are in flames in half a second.
These servers take more skill to shoot down an opponent, and not so much of surprise.

Yeah I couldn't believe that either, such attacks completely unprowoked, maybe lack of Luftwhiners is killing people here http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Then again it might be crushed ego by epic fail complex, that one is often in late war scenarios, probably as it takes less skill to do good http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
