View Full Version : Nicest aeroplane to fly

09-15-2006, 10:11 AM
Aside from combat, which aircraft do you fly simply for the joy of flying it?

I was flying a 109F4 the other night and had forgotten how beautiful it is to fly, she climbs like an angel and loops like a rollercoaster with barely any effort. I forgot all about fighting anyone and just cruised around doing lazy aerobatics. There is just something about that aircraft that makes it feel so right when it's flying. Apparently it was the favourite of many luft pilots and I can see why . http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

The SBD is another favourite, beautiful aircraft to fly, but in combat I tend to be too busy cursing it's slow cruising speed as I try to egress with fighters tailing me or frantically looking out for rouge enemies on ingress. Sometimes it's nice to just slide that canopy back go for a nice cruise, especially if it's a quiet online server and you can haul a bomb the long way round at angels 20 and suprise some sucker parked on the tarmc, wont even know what hit him. Makes the flight home even more fun. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

She doesnt handle so great down low but the view and the power keep me comin back to her.

109 E F G

09-15-2006, 10:39 AM
Yak 3 The 109 F is also a joy, but the Oscar is the best! A pure acrcobat.

Roomy cockpit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I turn up the volume. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I then work the throttles, so them engines start humming in just the right frequency ... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, ánd it's a joy to fly...

09-15-2006, 10:57 AM
Emil - and MC-205

09-15-2006, 10:59 AM
Dora - climbs, rolls, runs, accelerates, what else do you need? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

09-15-2006, 11:02 AM
109 E or F
He 111 - handles wonderfully for a medium bomber http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
P38 and Bf110

Empty loadout + 50% fuel = joy ride http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

09-15-2006, 11:11 AM
F-105 in the Bac Giang Bridge mission in "Yankee Air Pirate" add-on for WINGS OVER VIETNAM. Great upper body work out trying to turn that monster with a Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2 stick.

09-15-2006, 11:27 AM
Dare I say it I shall let the flmes begin

I love the Spit 9

09-15-2006, 11:28 AM
Bf 110 - first plane I chose when AEP came out and it's still the finest.

09-15-2006, 11:31 AM
Dare I say it I shall let the flmes begin

I love the Spit 9
Why should there be any flames, Spit9 is darn nice to fly, I especially like the CW for aerobatics as it rolls better...

09-15-2006, 11:33 AM
Here's a heretical point of view - the YP-80! I have recently been flying it and it is a dream. Fast rolls, no wobbles or yaw and it climbs!!!!!My god does it climb!

09-15-2006, 11:41 AM
See my sig and username. . . http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

09-15-2006, 11:51 AM
Ki-43, Ki-61 (cockpit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif ), 109E, Hurricane, Mosquito, Hellcat.

09-15-2006, 11:55 AM
Corsair...it's just dead sexy! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Also love the Hellcat!

09-15-2006, 12:13 PM
1) P-38L (Late)- I dont know why, but this plne is for me the best! I dare do in it things that I dont dare doing in other planes.
2) Hawk 81A-2 (P-40B)- Love it as it was one of my favourites from my childhood, when I started with scale modelling, and yes I know it is not a nimble plane, if compared with other ones.
3) P-40E - same as the above.
4) Spitfire Mk Vb and Mk VIII - Really not necessary to say why LOL.
5) Ki-43 - of the single-engined, this is the best one for aerobatics..
6) Fi-156 (in external view only as it is non flyiable, and believe me it is a great and nice little plane!Short take offs and landing..on a moving carrier you can almost choose the spot where you will land it).
7) Bristol Blenheim MkI - Another one that is flyable only in external view, as it lacks a cockpit in the sim. Very manouvrable for a twin engined bomber.
8) Ki-46, all of them in the sim - External view only, very fast and very manouvrable.

09-15-2006, 01:01 PM
How do you fly the aircraft without cockpits in external view? How do you select them and take control etc?

09-15-2006, 01:12 PM
I might be perverted, but I actually fly almost all planes for the fun of it.

Exception are probably the Yaks and Spits. Just not my type of aircraft.

09-15-2006, 01:14 PM
The venerable I-153 a.k.a. the Chaika - all the manouverability you'd ever want, that great wind-in-your-hair-feeling, not too überly sophisticated = great great FUN!!! Can't beat it for a fine autumn ride around the countryside http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

09-15-2006, 01:18 PM
1. Corsair, a dream of a plane, you can do everything with it and simply one of the sexiest planes ever built.
2. Buffalo, I begun to love it during my first FB campaign and it's still a pleasure to fly
3. Zero floatplane variant, great plane to fly around and land on a lake or near a nice little island

09-15-2006, 02:37 PM
The Gladiator. It's a hoot. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

09-15-2006, 02:46 PM
Corsair for me too, only just begun to learn it's secrets but it's a real nice plane to fly, just need to practise my trimming a bit more, I tend to get too hasty with it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

09-15-2006, 03:29 PM
The main three for me are
1. The F4F-3, it may not be the fastest plane but it is fun to fly (The F4F-4 is a dog)

2. The Spitfire (any marks) just great

3. P-47 (any marks) love the power this thing has.

I usually listen to classic rock whilst cruising.

09-15-2006, 03:56 PM
p-38,51,FW and now my new baby the temist. the pit was soooo well done.

09-15-2006, 06:27 PM
Spitfire - any mark -, 109F and P38J or L-Late.

The Spit and 109F just feel well rounded and smooth to fly, the Lightning it just makes me feel giddy.

09-16-2006, 01:24 AM
bueat stable loopy rolly climby plane http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
and just for tha helluva it
the tempest, it may be a b!tch to fly but sure is rewarding http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

09-16-2006, 01:56 AM
A6M2-N http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I love this flying boats - Coral Sea map, early sunrise or sunset, open cockpit, fly around carelessly, land on water facing into the sun, switch off engine and just float, listening to the sound of the waves.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

09-16-2006, 02:12 AM
Mig3U or 2xShvak and Japan J2M3

09-16-2006, 02:59 AM
J2M3, nice to fly, good armament, fast, agile and just a nice aircraft.
Early 109, nice to fly and can handle the opposition.
Any Spit but I like the early Mks.
FW190, nice but not easy.
Most easy to fly: err, umm, probably the Hurricane.
ps. or maybe the 109. hard to say, try before you buy.

09-16-2006, 04:01 AM
1) BF-110: I love that plane. It's fun to cruise in and with the MK-108 upfront, it's a pure badass.

2) Ki-43 "Osacr" and Mitsubishi A6M_ Zero: "Acrobats", as someone saiid.

3) Horten Ho-229: Love it, just love it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Other notable mentions go out to the P-39 and P-51 D Mustangs.

09-16-2006, 04:24 AM
Spitfire VIII/IX

Both very nice planes to fly.

Also :

Ki43 is very nice too.
La5 series
Dora is good but you have to be careful with all the power.

On a par with history really, but missing one, which is the P51D. I cannot say the plane in the sim is nice to fly in HARD manouvres. Its nice whne you are cruising about.

I also like the 1940-43 Zeros, after that they get too heavy and the Ki84 or Raiden is a better option for me.

09-16-2006, 06:02 AM
I must say the early 109s are just beatifull to fly, especially the Emil http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

09-16-2006, 06:15 AM
Hurricane any model, P-38, A-20, P-80, Gladiator, Mc-202 or 205 and the Ki-100.

Also can't leave out the Me-163 which can Dance through the skies. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

09-16-2006, 06:27 AM
well mostly any two engined aircraft:

and the He-162 is quite fun.

The IAR 81 is also fun to fly, but i must confess, I love all of them

09-16-2006, 06:37 AM
Il-2: Such a sturdy, stable plane. It points where you want it to go and it goes there.

Mig-3 w/2xShVaK: A wily little thing, if you know what you're doing you can just throw that thing about the sky.

F4U-1A/D Corsair: Speeeeeeed. This thing is like a rocket, and if you know how to treat her you can turn inside a 109 or sometimes a Zero for a few seconds.

09-16-2006, 06:52 AM
I have many favourites, B239, J8A, IL2, J2M3

09-16-2006, 06:57 AM

Because it's a challenge against fighters.

Amen to that brother http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Also I like the Brewster and P-40 best, they seem to handle best to my joystick/settings http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

09-16-2006, 02:30 PM
Seafires and Corsairs lately. Always loved the I-16 though...

For just flying around, I prefer these:

TB-3 - low and slow, but that's quite a feeling in that biggie
Ki-43 - for some instant action or max flight with least power (can do a lot with just a third throttle http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif)
Go-229 - climb and shut down the engines, stabilise that thing to the heading you want it and go make a coffee - this can be a long flight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
Me-163 - just like above, but a lot more power to get up and around
Do-335 - just the Do... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
FW-190D / Ta-152 series (C coming soon) - what a joy to fly - superb control reaction at any speed / alt, steady flight without trim and quite some power to do something unusual
"Bipes" like Gladiator or I-153 - for turning the hell out of it
Me-262 / He-162 - LOW and FAST! http://www.ubisoft.de/smileys/3.gif

09-16-2006, 06:47 PM
For just flying around, at low level where diving is not an option and where the FB terrain grafix looks best, I prefer...

If you have not tried it yet, fly the .42 at sunset or sunrise time on the map and turn on the best looking cockpit instrument lighting in any cockpit in the sim, and shucks, these "1930-esque" cockpit guages look the best. 1930s Italian cockpit designers must have been Engineer-Artists.

09-16-2006, 10:42 PM
The I-16 is a blast to take off, fly around in and land. But I can enjoy flying anything most of the time. I love flying the Jug for G'attack, the funnest plane to move mud bar none, also most effective at that chore. Best for bombing, rocket attacks and strafing!! Although not thought of or used much for ground attack, the DO-335 is pretty good too but lacks rockets.

09-17-2006, 04:03 AM
Me109 G2 , G6a/s or spit IX are the planes I find are the most fun to fly

09-17-2006, 04:31 AM
and me262

09-17-2006, 04:50 AM
Spit IXe (have yet to try the boosted version properly).
La7 (3 cannons)
Hurricane IIc (four cannons!)
Ki 84c (four big cannons!!)

All of these planes are very manouvrable (and the La7 and Spit are fast). The cannons mean that a snap deflection shot will cause a lot of damage. I love deflection shooting - get them when they don't expect it.

Also Buffalo mk1/B239- it's just so well behaved.

Bf 109 E, F, G Suits my joystick. Feels like 'hand in glove'.

09-17-2006, 05:20 AM
I like the feel of the P40 and the P39's.

09-17-2006, 05:30 AM
P-40 is a nice ride, average performance in all areas, no big surprises.

09-17-2006, 07:03 AM
Me-163, after the fuel is spent.

The glide then really gives a feeling of flight and in manouvres you feel the plane talking to the air.

09-17-2006, 07:14 AM
No one has mentioned the Ju-87. I absolutely love this plane just for putting around. Flip those airbrakes and you have a very short landing.

09-17-2006, 08:33 AM
For just flying around - 109F-2 or Emil, Fiat G50, B-239, early Yaks.

09-17-2006, 08:45 AM
uh yeah p-39! easy to fly, nice fire power, extremly manouvrable..yes,yes..i like it! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
