S! All

Here ya go, this works GREAT! I have some pics of needed supplies. 3/4 inch wooden balls 99cents at hobby store and some reflective tape. You can get it from TrackIR or a Mechanics tool dealer and who knows where else. Mine is from my SnapOn tools infared digital tach. And some sort of glue I used my Wifes Hot glue gun. Also an old pair of glasses mine are some cheap fishing glasses that had scratched lenses, I popped them out. I only used about 5 inches of tape, also sand on side of it flat for the glue to adhere too.

Here are pics.

And here is a track of it being used.

I was going to post a movie but found out it was going to take more time than it was worth Fraps stored it a little over a gig LOL If I get time or someoneelse takes the trak and makes a movie of it let me know. I'd like a copy of it.

This is way easier than the Infra red LED Mod, besides I havent seen any instructions on it anyways. Guys post stuff but seldom give the details, I'm from Missouri the SHOW ME STATE. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif It works in the daylight and Dark too. I recorded track at 2pm with the sun shinning into the room. When you do it you will find that the TracIR stock setup on Deadzone is all you need, I have enough room to back away from sensor 5 feet and it never skips a beat.I was 2 1/2 foot from it duirng the track.

Well good luck enjoy and keep me posted on how it works for you.

Good idea if you don't use a mic. The mic is about like your wooden ball, but sticks out further which makes it a little better./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have a mic but its too small and not completley round and it's only about 3/16 of inch in diameter and the DOTs don't stick to it worth a crap! So this is my fix.

I guess I got lucky with my mic. It has a foam ball on it, and the dots stick pretty good. I used about 15 of them, and covered it. Your idea is good though.

The ball is too big which makes the dot too big and a loss of precision. Not a lot mind you but enough.

The other thing is there won't be enough "throw" (side to side arc) to get the most resolution out of your TIR without having to up your speed settings. As mentioned, it's best to mount a smaller cluster of dots on a "boom" of sorts to get it closer to the receiver.

Whatever method you use, you want to make sure that you get the dot to travel from the far right to far left of the motion screen, comfortably. Then you can adjust your speed setting to taste.

This way you are getting the absolute most resolution and hence, visible smoothness, without having to compensate with acceleration.

Did you watch the track? I have between 2 and 3 inches of head movment. It's very comfortable to use. And no special tweaking. Besides it would probably work with a 1/2 ball or even a 1/4 inch aswell. The only thing it might do is make you sit closer. By using the Ball method like this the sencsor will always have the exact size of signal do to the sphere shape of the target. I'm sure there might be some added performance by tweaking the settings some or by changing ball size. I'm just poinitng out that this works if you don't have the patience to tweak it out. And if you do then this is a solid starting point. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Wouldn't it work better if you put the funny nose and moustache back on the glasses? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Well its not as bad as some I've seen with a 2 foot boom stick attached to head somehow./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Besides when dealing with some of these guys here you need a pair of those, and a Groucho Marks type of Humor too.
