jflain,
Depends on your expectations, perhaps? This sim doesn't exaggerate the sizes of objects just to make them easier to see. Beyond several hundred meters most any plane begins to look smallish, and the game represents very distant planes as simple dots, out to a limit of about 10km (6 miles), I think. Beyond that, nothing visible to the eye.

There are no user controls or .ini settings that I know of which would allow the player to alter this.

By the way, you can zoom in so as to better see objects by changing the field of view size. And for moving aircraft, it's better to padlock them if you don't have a TrackIR.

1/Reduce screen resolution,
2/Increace screen brilliance,
3/Clean screen
4/See optician
5/look at the setting Visibilitydistance in config.ini under OpenGL settings... if you increace this to 8 then set properties of file to read only you can see right over the horizon
6/Click on my badge and visit the Pravda section of the GIAP website here you will find the famous Olga page 3 photos - which are far better to look at than silly dots on your screen.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have a Geforce card, and I find the image sharpening feature in the NVIDIA control panel makes it much easier to see dots, and other things in general.

Though, I admit it's bordering on a cheat, but it's up to you.

Upon reading this post, I checked to find that I do not have a 'visiblilty distance' entry in the conf ini, what does that mean?

It works extremely well and 99% of all that use it say it's the best addition for flight-sims since the invention of the joystick.

I think the dots are realistic as we have them in this game now. They are indeed very hard to see. But what do you expect? Can you tell a Volvo and a Toyota apart when viewing it from 1 kilometre distance? Altough aircraft are generally a bit larger, you can only see so much detail. If you want to see the enemey aircraft sooner, I guess the best option is to turn on the labels. You can do this in the difficulty settings in the game. I do not know exactly what the setting is called but it is on the second page of the difficulty settings I believe.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

gdfo there is a distance iten in the opengl section look closer.but didnt really work for me though.
tracker IR is a head movement tool which allows you to move your head in real time thus moving the in game camera (hat switch)Makes the game more realistic and intense and will help flying a little.

Thanks other guys for help. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Visibilitydistance controls the distance at which the dots will first appear I believe (it does not make them larger - reducing resolution does that). If you set your graphics settings to perfect this value will normaly be set to 3 which is why you set file properties to read only thus stopping it change 8>3 or lower on startup. If your graphics card is not performant enough to run a high factor of Asino filtering you won't see the difference as the horizon will be a blurr anyway.

Either way it does not dramaticaly improve spotting enemy - it just gives you more chance of seeing planes in the long distance.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have looked through the config ini files several times now and can find absolutely no lines in OpenGL or DX for 'Visibilty distance'.

Can some one show a pic and can I add the line?

Here's a screenshot of the OpenGL section of my conf.ini, featuring VisibilityDistance=8. Note that I've only just changed the number from 3 to 8, so I don't know how well it works yet.

Hmmm, this seems to be an arcane art for only a handful of those in the know?

I've searched posts and also the 1946 DVD I bought (here in Oz) and there are no instructions/hits/tips on how you guide the X-4 from the Lerche.

Can someone please let me know how I guide them so my rockets don't disappear off in a lovely trail into the middle distance?

Many thanks,

From the file called 'ReadmePf.txt':

X-4 Rocket

The X-4 air-to-air rocket is wire guided. All rocket-carrying aircraft (Ta-152C, Ta-183 and Heinkel Lerche III) have a single rocket control module, and as such can guide only one rocket at a time. When launching multiple rockets simultaneously, only the last rocket fired can be guided.

To guide the rocket, use the ???Increase Sight Attitude???, ???Decrease Sight Attitude???, ???Adjust Sight Control to Right??? and ???Adjust Sight Control to Left??? keys. We recommend assigning them to the Up, Down, Right, and Left arrow keys correspondingly.

The easiest way to guide the rocket to target is to fire from the target???s six-o-clock level while flying on the same course. Guide the rocket to keep the lights on top of the target with no visible lateral movement until the moment of impact. Use gentle taps to provide last-minute guidance. The rockets detonate remotely, so no direct impact is required.

This method should be used to attack non-maneuvering heavy bombers from 3,000 to 3,500 meters away.

NOTE: The guiding wire is not visually modeled.
