I'm beginning to think that SH3 Commander has a grudge against me. This is the second career in a row that it has retired me after only 4 patrols. BdU must think I am of more use as a teacher than as a combatant. Oh well, time to train up another batch of snot-nosed rookies. Latest career details:

I am going to start the new career in July, 1940, and carry on from career to career until the end of the war. I've also just installed two new mods to test. The first one is the newest version of the 16 Km Atmosphere mod, light version and the latest version of the delayed sound mod by Average Joe. I really like that one.

I may, but I'm hoping not to, have trouble with the atmosphere mod, since I am using an Nvidia card. It caused a failure with the first version of this mod, rendering a black sky in daytime.

What keeps me going in all of this mod testing is the JSGME mod installer, which makes this process so much easier.

No luck yet getting the Atmosphere mod to work. I get the same black sky in daytime. This Nvidia card is supposed to be pretty good; it's just that this particular game doesn't like it.

Atmosphere mod

What does it do ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

It makes it easier to see ships at greater distances than the unmodded game and mods some of the sky effects. The downside is that it makes the machine work harder to render more 3D graphics, so it may not be suitable for lower spec machines. I can't get it to work properly because I have an Nvidia card. The latest beta drivers are supposed to be good, but they are for regular XP. I have the Media Center edition.

Kaleun, I read somewhere that the black sky happens when the mod is installed without rolling back SH3 Commander first. SH3 Commander's mod maker says to roll it back before installing any mod, install the mods, then start commander again, and all should be fine.

Never thought of that! I'll have to give it a try. Thanks.

That worked! I was in port between patrols when I read your advice. I rolled back SH3 Commander, installed the Atmospher mod and then launched via SH3 Commander. Bingo! On my current patrol I am enjoying seeing farther on a clear day than I was without this mod.
