View Full Version : UK-Dedicated shows empty slots but refuses connection - whazzup?

I've been trying to get into UK-Dedicated on HL a couple of times. When it shows for example that there are 10 of 20 players on the server, I get "Connection rejected, reason: limit = 20".

Some people join thru ASE (all seeing eye) or via IP address. Hyperlobby cannot track those down. It can only register those who joined via Hyperlobby.

...and its bloody annoying. One of the best servers on HyperLobby. Good settings, good scenarios, historical attention to detail. I like it...too bad it only takes 20 people and half the time you can't tell because of ASE.

Oh well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Need more servers like that!

Ok..i don't know if this will help you, but i get this sometimes on Warclouds and other servers sometime, so try this, it works for me...when you open HL let all your ping markers(green or red lights at side of server) load, all of them, right to the bottom...then try to join...i've had this a lot recently and this is the only way i can access a server without the "failed to connect server full" sign coming up...hope it helps http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Simple coincidence there Monty. A server is either full or its not. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

We are hoping to increase numbers on our server soon, its just a case of finaces http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif As you can imagine its expensive.

Good to see people like the server and I would like to thank Veta for all his work with themaps and the dedicated admins for keeping it well oiled!

You can disable sending of GS heartbeats simply by adding this line in to your hosts file: master.gamespy.com

You can use the notepad or other text editing program. Be careful the "hosts" file must be saved without extension, "hosts.txt", "hosts.doc", etc is wrong and it will not work !

Location of the host file for W98, ME:
1./ Browse the "c:\windows" folder
2./ Rename "hosts.sam" file to "hosts"
3./ Add the magic line in to the "hosts" file

Location of the host file for W2K:
1./ Browse the "c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc" folder
2./ Add the magic line in to the "hosts" file

Location of the host file for WXP:
1./ Browse the "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc" folder
2./ Add the magic line in to the "hosts" file

But warning ! It will disable hosting functionality of all GS powered games.

A lot of people are regulars in UK-D and direct connect or, as suggested, they connect via ASE which causes problems should have they nipped out to the pub while waiting to connect. As said, this means HL doesn't give the correct numbers.

Additionally, as there are limited places, we enforce a policy of kicking anyone 'loitering' in the server (i.e. they haven't flown for upwards of 5 mins and have not responded to 2 or 3 subsequent acknowledgement requests); if they loiter 5 times or more, they get temporarily banned.

So, please be assurred that the server admin makes every attempt to stop the server being clogged up with 'non-combatants' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
