View Full Version : Best tactics to sink a Carrier

what`s the best tactics ? what is best bomb delay as well ? I tend to use SBD in dive bombingg but with moderately successful results - even if bomb is dropped from low level...

Take a F4U with about 4000lbs of bombs and skip bomb it into the hull.

I generally approach at about 2000 meters alt, about 45 degrees off angle. Dip my nose and hold a long, gentle dive down to the deck until I am about 500m from the carrier. Pop up slighlty, drop bombs and then make a gentle left/right turn (depending on my ingrees point) and blast away from the carrier at over 600kph and about 1 m from the deck.

Skip bombing with HE-111 + 2xSC2000 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Indeed. You can dress up the He-111 as some Japanese bomber

Or load up a Sair with Tiny Tims at dive at it at a 90 degrees angle, if that isnt enough take a 2000lb bomb with you!

He-11 with the big bugger bombs for sure! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

M squad used this tactic in an online war we fought it, boy it pissed off the American side http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

For serviability I find flying from dead astern or the bow that you reduce alot of the flak that can be brought to bare. Also having another aircraft flying close on each side spreads out the flak http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

When the bomber gets to the edge of the deck, drop the bombs, and pull up hard using the gather air speed to get the fook out of there.

Poof, no more carrier http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

quite a few ways,my favourite has to be like bush says load up a sair with TT's and dive at it. or skip bomb from really low about 10m from the bow or stern, or even simpler dive at it coming in low from the bow or stern like you were skip bombing but pop up just a bit and zoom along the flight deck and just lay the bombs on the deck with a coupla seconds TD.
little tip, try not to hit it from a broadside angle between 100m - 3000m alt, you'll get torn to shreds.

Assuming you are trying to actually dive bomb the carrier, I recommend you fly in from behind the enemy carrier so you are flying the same direction as the ship is moving. If you approach from another angle, fly over the ship and then on its course.

I like to dive from at least 10,000 feet (15,000 preferred). Dive on the target with a small forward angle so that you are flying in the same direction as the carrier is moving. Open your dive brakes right away. Cut throttle to 0%. I aim at the front of the ship (maybe 1/3 of the way back). Get your crosshairs centered on the target and keep them there. Try to avoid major corrections immediately before you drop. Hold it as perfectly steady as you can for at least 2 to 3 seconds and release your bomb at about 2,000 feet. Immediately retract dive brakes, level out and switch back to normal view. Get the heck outta there.

I like to place flights of Kates & Vals loaded with torps, bombs & zero fuel on deck. Send a low flying group of Avengers in just ahead of me to soften up the hull http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif and dive from 3500m in my Dauntless with a 1600lb. gift from "Uncle Sam". A great night cap mission http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Tiny Tims or 4000lbs of bombs on a Corsair is fun. The two SC2000s from the He-111 is also fun.

Guys, thnx for that but I meant dive-bombing from like SBD rather than some fantasy scenarios with He 111http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif...

Zeus, what timing do you set your bomb delay on...?

07-26-2005, 02:57 PM
The delay shouldn't matter too much. I try to pull out of the dive high enough that even a zero dely is OK. If you really wanted to be safe you could do about 2 seconds for a bomb up to 1,000 pounds. Maybe a little higher for the 1,600 pounder.

Take up a PE and nuke it.

4,000 lbs of bombs, delivered by a F4U, through a Japanese carrier's deck, in a dive, will sink it in one pass. US carriers take a few of the same. British carriers, with armoured decks take a little longer.

I favour a fairly high approach - always from the bow or stern, as fewer guns can train on you this way - from about 4,000 feet at high speed, weaving as I approach to wrong-foot the AAA. Release bombs when you see the captin's face through the bridge windows, then leg it ASAP, weaving slightly. Ensure your bombs are set to at least 2 seconds delay.

Happy hunting.

a torpedoe plane of the appropriate theatre

you can sink a large carrier, from every nation, with a bombload of 2000kg/4000lb

bomdelay , whatever you want - 0-10sec , all is working.

you need 6 Typ91/Markx torpedos to sink one, also 14 torpedoes from the Heinkel.

the escort carrier will sink after 1000kg/2000lb

ships damage model is very simplified - well, its a flightsim http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif - as oleg said in the past http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Select your ordanance. Spawn on the deck and immediately drop all your bombs and hit refly. Repeat process untill your carrier is sunk and then enjoy airstarts from 2000m http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Dosent seem right does it?

07-28-2005, 05:42 AM
which part of the flight deck to target during dive-bombing for max damage ?

As I found out, SBD with 1600 lb bomb is not able to sink a carrier. Often, after explosion no signs of damage are visible...only once or twice I saw black smoke coming out of CV after bombing it with 1600lb

Just keep aimin fer the island. No matter what ya do just aim fer the island! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

u can take a beaufighter it only takes about 90+ rockets i was bored and tried and it took so long that i started destroying parts of the ship like the guns and lifeboats and stuff good fun

07-29-2005, 12:59 AM
Yes, focusing on the island does help to keep your bombs all landing in the same place. I don't think it really matters where on the deck you actually hit, not in my experience anyway, but, as most islands are halfway along the flight deck, it makes sense to aim for that point.

Run a digfight mission on the HyperLobby.
Advertise it as a "no shooting carrier landing practice" It's guaranteed that within a short period of time, one or more kids will come in, get bored after crashing a few times and go back to the ready room to load up on torpedos, and return to blow the bejeezus out of the carrier.

Works for us every time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
