George,

I just got told that any FRAPS made AVI can only be viewed by people who have FRAPS installed.

Is this true??

If it is true, is there any way around that limitation? Is it a limitation of registered vs unregistered??<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Not true. You need to transcode it anyway because your fraps files will be MASSIVE. I'm talking up to gigs in size if you leave it on for a while. Here is the best transcoder out there imo.

Super C

If you're not going the youtube or google video route then hosting flv video is the best way to go. Here's a demo for the cover system using flv video that is progreesive download from our clan's web server.

http://kiclan.com/files/coversystem.html

Macromedia has a free flv video encoder available with the flash demo.

I know what you are saying about the size...

I did a 30-sec FRAPS and the file was half a gig..

What would one do if they just want to have a file that others can download?? Not wanting to worry about u-tube or anything.

Thanx....<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

no that's not true. when u record with fraps it saves the footage you recorded as an uncompressed .avi file while which is usually extremly large in size.

in order to reduce the size of the uncompressed .avi file so you can easily share it online you will need to encode the video to divx using virtual dub.

in order to do this you will need the latest version of the divx codec and virtualdub.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

You take that transcoder i linked or use Windows Movie Maker to convert the video into any number of different formats, wmv, mp4, flash...then host it somewhere for download.
Many people use windows movie maker to transcode Fraps avi's into the wmv format becuase it's nice and easy. Plus you can edit the video in movie maker. wmv is also a high quality format only bettered by On2's flv video imo.

xvid, wmv and flash all give better compression quality than dvix.

Doom9 is good place to read up on this stuff.

Stalker1011

Yep, just import it into Windows Movie Maker and save as wmv. This is the best quick and dirty way to shrink the file size for sharing.
