It seems that every other time I try to load up IL2 1946 I get a loading problem.

The desktop shortcut usually requires a second attempt before the game loads up. If this is not the case I get the following message: "Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (1000)."

Furthermore, when the game is up and running, I notice an unusually long lag when switching aircraft views to the next.

Could this be soundcard related? I'm wondering because I've never had any problems running other IL2 installations (and I think I own every version and expansion since the original) and the only variable in my 1946 installation is I've upped some of the sound options. Of course, the only other variable would be the DVD format.

I've got an AMD XP-3000+, 1Gig of PC2700, lots of HD space, Soundblaster Audigy 2 and GeForce 6800GT both with latest drivers, and HomeXP.

Thanks Fooltrottel, now I know it's a known issue. Sorry I didn't catch that older thread.

Anyhow, I do have the most current firmware (1.02) for my Plextor DVDR PX-740A so the problem lies elsewhere. Will continue investigation using the links provided in the other thread though.

Fortunately this problem is only occassional. It usually loads up fine after a cold/warm re/boot of my PC. If I exit and try to start again, is when problems usually occur. Weird.

Thanks again.

Looks like the problem I have with my Sony DVD-RW, that one usually does not read the disk, and only once in a blue moon it does... no problem for me as I got a DVD-R drive too... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
