View Full Version : 1946 Water 4

Anyone else notice that Water 4 in 1946 is less choppy and more smooth looking versus 4.04m?

I miss the choppy water we had before, any way to get it back?

I have a Nvidia 7900 GTX, 4400 X2 with 2 gigs ram so it should work eh, unless I'm missing a config file tweak besides water 4 and hardware shaders 1

I also first thought that i had water 4 enabled when i installed 1946. But infact it was Water=3.
So restart your computer to be sure, and check the entry in the conf.ini file and make sure that it reads: water=4.
I know that you know all that but at first i had the exactly same thoughts as you and only noticed by accident that i had water 3 enabled whereas i thought it was water 4.
Good luck, Mate.

Yeah, I've got Water 4 enabled - I think they just changed the water effects.

It actually reminds me of what happened in 4.04m if you renamed the p4 dll to the regular one.

I have noticed the same, and made a post about it in the dear departed Ubi forums.
Shortly after the 4.07m release I sent 1C an email with 4.05/4.07 screenshots.

The big difference is seen with weather setting = 'Clear', where the 4.07m/4.071m water (perfect, water=4), seen from low level flying plane, will be more 'flat' than in 4.05m. From higher altitude the water looks the same. When weather gets more 'rough' the water looks similar in 4.05m and 4.07m.
The change in graphics seems to be related to the game version, not a change in conf.ini file, as I can switch between 4.05m and 4.07m game versions in the same game folder (i.e. using same conf.ini), and the difference will show.

My hardware:
AMD X2 4800+ Toledo
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe mainboard (BIOS 1303)
2 x 1 GB Corsair 3500LLPRO (factory timing: 2-3-2-6-1T)
2 x ASUS 7900GTX (512 MB) in SLI, driver 96.89.
Boot drive: Western Digital Raptor 150 GB (10.000 RPM),S-ATA. Boot partition with WinXP and all software: 45 GB
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS

Yes, I mentioned this earlier as well. I`m running on Watewr-4 all the time now. Something that was impossible before. They`ve optimised IL2 further with `46.

Hmm, makes sense - they'd make it calmer on a clear day.

As far as optimization - I'm experiencing the opposite - I've gone from an average of 60 FPS on a 28 plane Quick mission to 25 FPS in 1946 - I've lost a TON of framerate, not sure why :-\

Well, I suppose it's only a matter of time before someone lists all the edit's that can be done in the config file. I'm just hoping this is not the only one.
Does anyone know of any others that can enhance the graphics?
