Went on HL and flew on a Server (which I won`t name) that was testing its new Stalingrad map. Planes available were lagg3s `41, P40, I16 and LA5. German planes were 110s, G2s and a coulpe of others i don`t remember.

It was a good map and server, very smooth, even with the over-the-top flak.

But one gut joins on Blue and as soon as he gets shot down it`s, "Shot down by an UBER-plane again" meaning the La5.

Ignored by everyone.

I followed someone (in a G2) in my LA5 as a flew the plane badly just on seeing me and crashed into the water, I never fired a shot. It was the same whiner. {i]I[/i] could`ve done better than that in a G2.

Couple more whines about the LA5 and how everyone`s using it. Actually a couple of guys were using a Lagg3, even an I16.

I told him that the standard LA5 was not that good and way worse than it was originally. But, fine, I said, I`ll take a Lagg 3 `41. Happy?

"La5s and laggs ruin this sim!" he whines on.

But it`s a Russian sim in a Russian theatre!

"I16s are UFOs!"

Twit. I was going to take up an I16 to prove him wrong, but why should I? the guy can`t fly and blames the tools not his own lack of skill. And I hate it when i guy brings his whine to a chat bar - TAKE IT TO THE FORUMS! I go online to fly not listen to whining cos your **** at shooting planes down!

Rant off.

Chat bar whiners are one of the few annoying things in online gaming.

The best one like that I've seen is 1 guy in an A6 being chased in a slow speed fight and shot at by 4 F6F's flown by humans. The guy was doing ok but when he was inevitably shot down he accused every one of warping and the A6 being undermodelled.

I get tired of whiners as a (small) server operator. Boring things that I see in the logs many times:
- f..ing jets
- f..ing AAA
- f..ing cheaters
- f..ing vulchers
- f..ing server
- f... you

The worst thing that can happen is that verbal fight erupts in the chat bar, destroying everyone's immersion.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Come to think of it, maybe I should impose a chat-line/minute rate limit, and kick people flooding the chat line instead of flying. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Just point and laugh. Like this: http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

I also find this http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif gesture most effective.

If people want to whine, let them whine. It's probably the only satisfaction they'll get all night. It'd be cruel to take that away from them. So let them whine all the want.

Then shoot them down again. And again. And again... Losers Leave (eventually). Deathkicks are most helpful in this regard.

rnzoli, if you run a server and somebody starts making trouble, warn them, then kick them. You're the boss if it's your server.

S!,
That's the good thing about having a dedicated server w/ proper scripting. You can easily start weeding away the chat bar whiners by creating a 'bad' word table. Words defined as curses will post X amount of warning points towards these individuals. After exceeding the warning point limitation, they are either kicked, banned, or both http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It's amazing the effect of such controls have on the common chat bar whiner http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yep, that's what makes chat bar clear and enjoyable to use for those of us who are not on voice comms...

Geez, you couldnt make up any more lies about that could you? I flew on that server, on that occasion too. Your whiny version of that conversation is so far from the truth that's its silly. Get a grip, get over it and chill out dude!!!

What's to get upset about? Blast the h*e*l*l out of them and move on. Whiners about whiners are the worst kind of whiners, lol. Just thought I'd clue you in. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

lol. that`s so old, slickstick, but I did say bring it on the forum. I`m guilty of sometimes whining, but it might be a one-off and I don`t go on and on every time I get shot down. I think the guy wouldn`t have been all happy until we just stayed on the parkway and let him vulch us continously.

Mine was but a light-hearted stab at the "whining about whining about whining about whining...etc" routine is all, let's not lose focus. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I think we eventually just become immune to it as it will always be a part of online gaming that features servers that can have a wide range of skill-level involved at any one time.

If you look at the usual whiners, they are usually impatient, have the "big, fast, now!" mentality and just want instant gratification with no experience or time spent.

Then there are the "Chat Trolls" whose only reason for being in the server is to incite problems or get on overly-sensitive people's nerves until they get the reaction they so desperately need. I'm for never giving them the satisfaction of even acknowledging them.

Online gaming is based on whining. Wherever there is a noob getting splashed, a veteran getting pwned or an "Ace" getting shot down by an "Ace of Aces", there will be whining. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

You should see other online games. Trust me, IL2 whiners are nothing compare to other online players. Must be the age of players...

I do agree there. I'm thankful that I long for this relatively "older" crowd genre of gaming. However, I know some 30somethings that would rival the whining of the most-immature FPS crowd. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

LMAO ah those were the days, I never liked the chat bar (In any game), most times I would just minimize it if the BS got too much. The only time the chat bar was ever truely useful was when FBDaemon and similar packages got developed. If some one has something truely important to say they will generaly use team speak.

Besides I thought Oleg fixed the Whine bar by providing us with a forum instead.

Ignoring the whiners is the best way to deal with it IMHO.

Interesting:-

Chat (1) The vermin that infested clothing, blankets, and dug-outs. (2) To search clothing for chats.

(1) General. From 1690 as thieves€ cant (OED), but World War I Australian from 1916 (AND). Attested in numerous sources.

€˜Chat€ meaning €˜louse€ was a British slang term from the 19th century which dates back to 1690 as cant, but came into widespread use, particularly amongst the Australian troops, during World War I.

Next parcel, please don€t forget some life buoy and Mortien for it is almost impossible to keep free from chats as we call them. They keep us awake at nights & we have to fasten a rope round a gun on to our legs to keeps them from running away with us.
William John Duffell, Letter to his Mother, 1916.

(2) World War I Australian. From 1919 (AND).

Just realised that what that doesn't get across, is that de-lousing was a communal activity when the troops went out from the line, hence, chatting, to chat, going for a chat, etc.

I have seen different etymologies for it though, so I wouldn't claim that to be definitive.

Communal, eh? Wow, just like those pictures you see all the time of chimpanzees and other primates de-lousing and grooming each other.

Just an interesting Darwinesque observation. Or maybe, not so interesting. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
