View Full Version : William De Monferrat Death Speech

I've seen a lot of weird interpretations of a particular line in William's death speech. Let me clarify it.
"Conrad? My son is an arse. Unfit to lead his host, let alone a kingdom. And Richard? The oc e no's no better, blinded as he is by faith in the insubstantial."

"Oc e no" (roughly "yes and no") is a reference to Richard's indecisive nature (which is a major theme in William's assassination mission and investigations). This term also appears in one of the pickpocket missions for the this assassination in the console version, when the guard and priest are conversing by the waterfront marketplace.

I've seen a lot of stuff like "Richard? What else he knows no better" or "Richard, we also know is no better", so I thought it appropriate to clarify.

Edit: typo

I had trouble understanding that as well, the only line in AC I can't accurately interperet. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Wikiquote says "what else he knows is no better", it makes sense so I'll stick with that.

Richard was often referred to as "the Oc e no" historically. I should have clarified that. lol

Edit: quote marks typo

Wait, what does OC e no means?

Haha, wow i must not have explained it very clearly.
I don't know what it means for sure, but "oc e no" means something along the lines of "yes and no". So people tended to call him that because of his indecisive nature.
I was hoping some history nerd would step in and help me out here lol.

Youíre right, Edengoth. ďOc et noĒ does mean yes and no in an old Occitane dialect (donít forget Richard had French origins), but it was because of his famous mood changes.

Edengoth, the first part was "my son IS an arse" not in an arse

Yes, and as you linger over the dead guards body, you remember that you were going to attack Edengoth, and so you switched off the console and launched your spam attack.

~EDIT~

Oh wait, you use a PC, don't you, disturbed...
