http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Me again all! lol

I got GWX 1.03 working and decided to re-start my career. Now it is the 6th Spetember 1939 right? 3 days after war breaks out - about 2am I should mention!

I am sailing along and find a large trawler which I send down with 8 shells.

I leg it at 14 knots and a destroter comes along and I get visual 5-6 km away. I dive and go to silent running at 20 meters heading away.

He DOES NOT SEE ME

about 5 mins later (in game) this destroyer alters course straight for me at 35 knots for no reason. I havn't done anything stupid like leaving a periscope up lol.

He races down on me regardless of what manouvers I take - he always heads right for me. NO ASDIC - he is going wayyy to fast for that! Anywho he drops one depth-charge and it lands smack above my bow quarters sending me down. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Now WHAT THE F**K is up with that???

That should NOT happen! He didn't detect me, so HOW did he find me? He CAN'T hit an undetected sub with his first charge dropped in combat, and most of all - the war is only 3 days old! He isn't war trained yet! How come he is so good???

Sorry, good game mod, but the enemy warships should not be THAT good so soon in the war guys! What's up there and can I change them to not so good to go with the time of war? I don't want a walkover skill setting, but something realistic I would like. I can take that skill if it is 1943-45, the war is getting on and training is good by then, but not SO soon!!

That is my moan gone! Thanx guys...

Oh BTW 4 fragging times that happened lol http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

There is a thread in the forum that mentions this. It also has a link to changing the experience level of the DD's

I am beginning to wonder if the game engine has an issue with dd-escort experience and the amount of enemy ships available for the time your playing in.

here is an example;
Playing late `39 out of Thalia decided for an experiment to try and break through Gibraltar. Now I know what most of you are thinking but check this out. Again it is late `39. One elco must have spotted my scope because the next thing I know the barrage is on. There's patrol aircraft, 6 dd-escorts and a handfull of patrol boats hunting me. Well, I got creamed.

Not using GWX. The fact that yes that mods dd-escort experience is up or what not is true but my experience leads me to belive the whole uber-dd-escort experience is not limited to one supermod.

Thanx! Changing Enemy Crew Ratings (Escorts)

Comprehensive post by Bootsmann0815. His instructions will allow you to set the escort crew capabilities down to the level of mere mortals.

"The easy way is to reduce the enemy crew rating from "Elite" to lower settings by editing the Campaign_RND.mis file. Open this file either with Notepad or with Word for Windows.

Each enemy warship has an entry which reads
"CrewRating" in its description. There are about 2,200 of those in UBWA, and of them 1,650 are "Elite" - indeed quite unrealistic in early war.
You can see the status of an enemy crew by the number in the CrewRating line
CrewRating=4 means Elite
CrewRating=3 means Veteran
CrewRating=2 means Normal
CrewRating=1 means Novice

You can now either manually assign lower crew ratings to each individual warship (that will take you a while), or use the Edit -> Replace All function in Notepad (takes over 50 min) or Word for Windows (takes 10 seconds).
In the "Replace" line you type
CrewRating=4
and in the "Replace with" line you type
CrewRating=3 (or =2 or =1) as per your preference. If you go with the "=1" option, former Elite units (i.e. the vast majority) become as stupid as the normal units in the stock game, but nevertheless retain their ability to execute more elaborate evasive manoeuvres and not just zig-zagging.

I recommend that you don't bother fiddling with sensor settings. The enhanced capabilities of the enemy units in UBWA are almost exclusively due to their higher crew rating compared to stock, and not because they got better equipment." Good Luck.......Otto http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

ottoramsaig1959 I am thinking that in 1939/40 I should change all my 4's to either 2's or 3's. I dunno though... 2 or 3 lol. Since I probably won't change it again (ever) lol 3 would be better right? Just take some of the "edge" & "overkill" off lol.

Thoughts on that? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

ottoramsaig1959 What I have done (and PLEASE tell me if this is wrong) is change all of the level 3 ratings in the file to level 2 (3500ish) and all the level 4 ratings (150ish) to level 3.

This sould make it more realistic for 1939/40 I think. Is this so? Thanx!

Yep! you should now notice that the DD's don't pick up at 4000 meters away, lets face it, even with bino's a sub at almost 2 miles away on a curve horizion would be difficult if not imposible to detect.You now have some running room to reduce your range. You will also notice that merchants won't zig zag so quickly. Gives you some room to manuver as they try to detirmine freind or foe. In the early years I normally go to full speed ahead giving me a quicker dive time not to far from your target. I dive at 2000 meters........Otto

I run GWX and play @ 96%. I have always had an easy time with DD's in '39, but look out after that.
They only used ASDIC when they heard something. A DD moving slow, uses passive detection: the same as yours.
ASDIC is active detection, used on a positive contact. If a DD is in sight, you 'must' go to silent running or they 'will' hear you.
If they are moving at medium speed, they won't hear you because it is too fast to use passive.
If this just confuses you, the you must ask the question, "Should I be attacking Destroyers?".
From '40 onwards, I just avoid them where possible, but can't resist the odd long-distance shot at night.
