View Full Version : Put MiniMap at bottom of cockpit only

It could be nice to have to look down into the cockpit see the map instead of the map pasted on the canopy where ever you look. Also, then the map can always be left ON. To read the map, look all the way down into cockpit.

Thanks.

Lexx, you do know you can grab the map by using both mouse buttons and drag it to whereever you like, right? I might be misunderstanding your question, but I usually put it just under the front edge of the canopy where I can open and close it, but it wont obstruct my view in front of me.

I agree, something like putting the map on the pilots knee, and you have to look down to see the map would be great..

Err.....so I've only been playing this game since it first came out, and, once again, I learn something new!

I wonder what else I don't know? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thanks for the tip - I, too, have often wanted to move the map!

Okay:: Here is the idea::

The map appears only when you look front *full* down--all the way down with the down hat switch. I just hate a map pasted on the canopy even if I can slide it around, very arcade. The nice thing is you wouldn't have to turn the map off to go back to "full real" instead just look out the cockpit like in real life.

Now, what if you are using the continous view movements with mouse or TrackIR? When should the map appear? Maybe when you look down far enough--"far" to be determined by the programmers of course. I can see why they just pasted the map to the canopy (imaginary canopy in case of I~16) its just more simpler.

What is your plan for the people who don't fly with the cockpit on? You may not fly that way, but you have to consider all aspects if you want your idea to be considered.

Yes I forgot the cocpit off thing. Okay, with cockpit off, they can paste the map to the sky like they do now.

Remove that option it shouldn't be in this game.

Tedious unoriginal philosophical statement the pith of which is lost in repetition.

Never knew that. Does it say that anywhere or did you find out by chance?

I'm going to have a play with that right now /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hold down both mouse buttons -- left and right buttons together, then drag map across the sky.

Good suggestion earlier--I dragged it to center bottom of screen, so if I do use map it really is irritating unless I look down in cockpit.

Lexx in the real world it was workeble for a pilot , buht is it on mthe most comman computer screens workable? (bomber pilots including).
my vote is against it.

hmmm - when I use a map - admitedly on foot - I line it up so north is roughly to magnetic north ....

.... then pick signficant objects from the world and/or map

... this gets my key locations.

This involves quick eye/head movement - with the map held at a - relativly - high level.

Would a (WWII) cockpit map be kept at lap level all the time? What was Russian (and German) practice at the time?
Did they issue umpteen maps the way modern airforces do?

(AFIK, in the early war, the Russians only the flight leader with a map.)

All this goes to say, I think we can leave maps alone - they are fine as is.
(Improve the documentation - so people know the tricks ... do you really need two mouse buttons - IIRC, it's only one)

I drag it to the lower right, far enough to lose that leather on the right and bottom sides.

shrinks the leather down for me.
