Hi everybody http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am getting a bit bored of il2 series, and that is why i have been thinking on buying BoB II... what you think about that game? is it realistic? what about graphics? would you prefer it to Il2 series (only talking about Single player)...

thank you!!

I dont think you can do anything wrong by buying BoBII:WoV! It's a great offline experience and IMHO much more immersive than the IL-2 series because of the huge bomber and fighter formations, the complex dynamic campaign mode where you can take command of either the LW or RAF forces and assign targets to your formations and the vivid radio chatter with wingmen calling out fighters/bombers and alerting the player should an enemy get behind you.
The AI also seems to be much smarter than in IL2 and doesnt cheat you with their unlimited G tolerance and unrealistic high G maneuvers. They also seem to loose visual contact with you depending on their skill level. What's also a great plus on my side is that you have complex start up sequences for each flyable plane, you need to open the fuel lines and select the right tank, switch on the magnetos, use the fuel primers if need be and then hit the engine starter and hope that the engine springs to life.

Graphics are excellent in some places (plane models, cockpits, skins, water and weather effects) and a bit outdated in others (2D treelines, low poly landscape, so-so terrain textures) but all in all can hold its own with IL-2 just fine.

I've heard that down the road there will be a multiplayer mode for BoBII so one can hope for online missions guarding/attacking 100s of bombers at a time!

Yes BOB WOV is a very good combat flight sim and I fly it quite abit. The AI is just as bad in WOV as it is in IL-2 series, but the BDG group are still improving it while we will have to wait for BOB for better AI. I'm hoping that multiplayer is enabled because there nothing as immersive as flying with squadm8's on comms.
I have the magnetos/fuel etc mapped to my Hotas system which adds a nice touch of immersion in WOV.
What I like about WOV its very difficult to stay alive in a campaign as your outnumbered alot of the times, just as it was in the actual Battle of Britain.
To my mind there are alot of things that need improvement but its a work inprogress and a combat flight sim all true combat flight simmers should have on their harddrive.

You might want to take "Snoopy vs the Red Baron" off your dvd drive first.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

What exactly? The in-depth tutorials that take you by the hand from takeoffs and landings over to formation flying, one on one dogfighting, schwarm escort/intercept fights with/without alt advantage and ground pounding sorties in Stukas and Bf110s?

Or maybe the nice and detailed printed manual that explains all ingame functions (and key commands on a seperate fold-out paper).

There's even a pdf file on the official forum for pilots coming from IL-2, explaining the various key commands and comparing them to their IL-2 equivalents.

Yes no realism at all, I can tell you! You can start every flyable plane "by hand" if you wish, your wingmen actually do what you tell them to and engage the enemy instead of everyone ganging up on a single enemy a/c plus they are actually of use because they inform you whenever you got a bandit moving in on your six and come to help on their own. Not to mention the huge formations of bombers, escorting and intercerpting fighters crowding the airspace.

Il2 FOR EVER!!!!

LOL, well to each his own... IL-2 is the king of multiplay but thats it.

BOB II held lots of promise for me, but alas, I could never enjoy it because it would never run for more than 20 minutes without a crash to desktop. When it did run it was fun, but the constant crashing (and yes, I kept trying new install with all the latest patches--it just didn't like my system for some reason) it was never a good alternative for me. Moot point now because since then my main gaming computer died and I decided to sell off all my flight gear as well. Just not into the simming world any longer...

Patience, gentlemen! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
BOB WOV is a truly superb game, but you have to take your time to set everything up. First, visit the shockwave forums, there you'll find a lot of info about the latest patches - and a lot of helpful lads too. Install the latest patches, multiskin, terrain update. Then download the manual, and "tune" your bdg file - like conf.ini in il2. I'm sure it's gonna help you.

My biggest issue about BOBWOV is that you shot down a plane it's gonna dive to the right. it won't spin, won't evven dive to the left...

...Though, I've heard that 2.07 patch will solve this real soon. I hope so http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Hmm, well I've installed the beta 2.07-build40 .exe and theres a new random crash animation. Even before that I had planes getting into uncontrolled spins and wing over dives to both sides though...

ok ok... changed my mind!!! not so bad after all.... only problem is that i get constant stuttering and low fps even with my nice laptop!!!

-Core 2 Duo, T7700 2.4ghz
-2gb RAM
-160Gb 7200RPM
-8400gs newest drivers

i get about 22fps average on a 1vs 1 Dogfight! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

i know this is not the forum, but do you know of any Tweak Guides or something similar for this game?
thanks!

Sure!

Set "Particle density" to medium. Never use it on maximum!
If it's still not enough, the biggest fps killers are:

Weather
Horizon distance
Ground object density

22fps on a 1V1 is strange. I have 22 fps, on my hard rock bottom PC.

thanks!!

FPS no longer a problem!!!

however, stuttering is incredibly annoying... now im getting around 32 fps average in 1vs1, but stuttering is too high, specially when in cockpit viewing from left to right or right to left.

I wanna try it, too! But I don't want to have to download the lot right up to v2.6. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

I'd love to be able to find it on disk. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

The seller is NWS Online Gaming which I think supplied a lot of IL2 1946 discs in Nov/Dec last year.

You don't have to download the lot 'til 2.06, 2.06 contains the earlier patches as well.
