Did you know some G10s, K4s has this type of clear cockipt it was the nearest the germans got to the clear bubble cocpit. I wonder why this was not modelled in fb?

And what you think it's currently modelled in FB's late 109ers?/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'm sorry, you're mistaken. The late 1943 Bf-109G-6, Bf-109G-6/AS, Bf-109G-10, Bf-109G-14, and Bf-109K-4 are all equipped with the Erla-Haube canopy in IL-2: FB.

Best regards,
Tattered Boots.

The REAL question is, why did the design team feel it necessary to *sandbag* the Erla Hood with yellow streaks in the rear quarter and side windows???

Fly a 109G6Late: try looking out those windows when over dark green terrain, or on a day with clouds, overcast or mist. You can't see *anything* but a blurry mess. The yellow streaks make it impossible to make out "specks" or even close-distance planes.

Another subtle little "annoy the Germans" bias thrown into the sim for no reason. These hoods were put in to IMPROVE visibility, not hamper it. The way this "feature" was handled in the sim is an outrage.

I'm german and I am not really annoyed, so it cannot be an "annoy the german" feature. Sounds more like an "annoy Stiglr" feature to me...

Actually, "yellowish" plaque had mostly VVS cockpit, even La7 (you can see it in Prague Kbely AF museum).

The real bad thing in Erla canopys is the crapy headmovement in late 109- it´s diffent to the early one, which have a much more realitic one...
The Erla canopy is the only one in FB where you are not able to to look behind the upper strut even if you use "shift- F1"...

Firebird....come ON, man....think...

Does "60 years passing" mean anything to you? Of course a museum piece will have yellowed plexiglass. But not a '40s vintage plane. They had crews of guys who kept them spotless in good times, and in the best condition possible in harder times. But no ground crewman worth his salt would let his plane take off with glass that was hard to see out of.
