I was one of those that was initially very disappointed with Assassin's Creed. The repetitiveness, the lack of precision in the controls, and the poor camera were really pissing me off.

But the more I play the game, the more I don't care about those shortcomings. This game is just out of this world gorgeous. So many possibilities in the cities. Just wander around, and create your own side mission. I just played for hours hunting down every guard on a roof.

The best of all is that I just succeded to conquer the Cathedral in Acre. Wow! It was worth it to buy the game just for the view up there.

So for all the haters, open up your mind, and start to enjoy the game your own way. You have 3 cities to wander around after all. This is definitely one of the most amazing game I've played.

As we said, ignore the idea of what you are doing, and begin to imagine that you are doing it.

That is how you play this game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I too initially thought the game was too repetative, but then I got to mission 4 and the game opened up for me, so my advice now is if you play past mission 4 and still dont like the game - fair enough, but if you didnt, then you need to buy it again.

Hi Hunterd1970,

I am Glad you like the game now. It does take some time to get used to, but it is great once you do. The Cathederal does indeed rock. I got the the top and just looked down...wow.

Despite a few problems here and there, Assassin's Creed contains one of the most important things in a game. Fun! I still get a buzz everytime the city goes on alert and you have to run. I make it more fun by running at guards and trying to collect more and more to chcase me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yes its definately a slow burner.

The problem with the game is that it was massively overhyped. I stayed away from most of the hype but couldnt help but get so excited by what a saw. You fill in the gaps yourself and create the best game ever in your mind then when it arrives its never going to succeed.

I was disappointed at first how it was repetitive within a few hours but now i have played it and figured more of the way it works out its actually very good.

Im still amazed at how i killed a man one time, slowly walked away as i normaly do without much care, and people started cowering and shouting a was a murderer round the corner, and then called for guards and i got chased. Great AI

All in all i love it so much im off in a second to play again!

If you are facing the front of the church while standing on the very top of the cross, simple pan your camera down and slightly to the right, you can clearly see the haystack, heck my 7 year old son scaled the church and saw the stack all on his own, and then took his leap of faith. Sure was fun watching his face as his altair plumeted down towards that stack. ( it also happened to be his first leap of faith so he had no idea he would live. =p )

yes, you can do a leap of faith from the top of the cathedral (that cross)

I completely agree with you. At the start I found the repetitiveness annoying. Most high points you climbed were pretty much the same, the guy in Masyaf who gives the tutorials has the exact same speech and animation every time, the entrance to all 3 bases is the same, I was tired of seeing the same animations over and over...

But the more I played the game the more I liked it and after a while the repetitiveness didn't annoy me whatsoever. Exploring the kingdom is endlessly satisfying and areas that I previously rushed through actually turned out to be large enough towns with loads of hidden flags and templars. I love what they've done with the game and anyone who takes the time to enjoy instead of rushing through it will probably like it just as much as I do.

I agree that the Cathedral in Acre is one of the WOW moments of the game, as is the Mosque with the gold dome (can't remember which city). And the way you could hear the praying/chanting as you climbed was amazing.

While I enjoyed the start of the game to a certain extent it is now one of the best games I've ever played. I can't really compare it to anything else, as the enjoyment I get from it is significantly different to any other games I've played. I can't really explain it but it is different. Maybe it truly is redefinition of action/adventure for this generation of consoles.

This game is truly amazing...the sheer size of it just blows me away. To be honest, the repetitive aspects of AC are a small price to pay for a game on this sort of scale. It naturally needs to have repetition - it's too large to not have it. A game like this without any repetition wouldn't have you leaving Masayaf. Game reminds me a lot of "Thief", just on roids!

I think that AC2 will be reflective of the feedback that we leave here...if you feel this one is awesome, even with the present kinks, wait until they clean it up for their next effort with this franchise. I'm just hoping that it sticks to the Crusade-era...the whole period is too cool to depart from. I'd love to see AC2 sending Altair to Crusader-Europe to do a few hits...would be totally sick! Lot's of cities to choose from there and castles aplenty!

Me too. Actually I liked the game from the start. I always ignore pre-release hype and so I had no preconceptions going in, which sometimes leads me to be pleasantly surprised. But it also sometimes leads me to miss some good games simply because I don't know about them. To me AC seemed like a good bet based on the reports from the sources that I rely on for unbiased reviews.

Having said that, I never thought I'd play it through more than once, yet here I am half-way through a second run-through and enjoying the game even more than I did the first time. It's one of those games where the atmosphere is so good and the gameplay so congenial that you can forgive all its shortcomings. The controls are now becoming second nature to me so I'm starting to do some really nice moves. Playing the game is beginning to be like curling up with a really good book that you've read and re-read - further readings just make it better and better.

I somehow managed to play for 7 hours the other night and only stopped because I figured that since it was 9AM that I should get some sleep. The time flew and all I was doing was roaming around the cities and the kingdom...

Hehe I stayed up all night on my third day with the game. That night I must have played 12 hours straight through, from 8pm to 8am.

Usually if I stay up all night with a game it's on the first day, but this game kinda creeps up on you.

I agree. I hope they don't listen to the folks who want this game to be Hitman or Splinter Cell. I really like the atmosphere they've created and I don't want this franchise to turn into just another clone of some unoriginal game.

Indeed. If they pull another 'POP: Warrior Within' on the sequel...I would go berserk. Not that they would care one bit about it, but still http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
