View Full Version : I'm Sold

10-29-2004, 06:48 PM
Let me start off by saying, one of the reasons I am sold on Pacific Fighters is this forum. I have been turned off to titles that have had a "bad" forum in the past.

I have been gaming for quite a few years and this is one of the most informative and friendly boards I have been on. Even the complaints are submitted in a mature manner from what I have seen. This is a far cry from the flamming, bickering I have seen on so many other forums. My compliments to the moderators and the members of this forum.

Another reason I am sold is I have read how the developers have listened to users and fully supported their titles (PCGamer).

I have alot of reading to do before I ask a bunch of questions. And of course I actually need to have a copy of the game loaded up too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. I will have one in a few days, the Best Buy near me does not have it yet. I might get it here online.

I have already read the tutorial on the joystick setup which was excellent and booked marked. Fortunatly I have the same joystick as the author so I will have a head start by using his settings http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The last flight sim I played was Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2. It was in my earlier years of gaming. Low spec computer and no clue and no broadband = frustration. I went on to driving sims after that (Nascar Heat, NR2002 and NR2003).

The computer and the broadband are not a problem any more, so I am ready to go.

Just a few quicky questions.

1)Do you guys have organized matches, battles etc? I see there are squadrons so I would imagine this is the case.

Once I get a little up to speed could you recommend a group to hone my (lack of)skills with.

I think I have the abbreviations down for some of the other titles.

FB = Forgotton Battles
AEP = Aces Expansion Pack

And I don't know if there is an abbreviation for the first release.

To get 100% up to speed which would you recomend and in what order. I think I seen a Gold pack somewhere.

Thank You in advance

Welcome to the forums!

You are correct, this forum houses some of the best mannered gamers out there. It can get a little crazy sometimes, but it's usually a good bunch.

Anyway, Download Hyperlobby game client instead of using the Ubi.com to play online.

Can be found here: http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz/

There are always plenty of pilots online.

The Gold pack would be your best buy if you do not have any of the games yet. It will give you Forgotten Battles and Ace Expansion Pack for about $30. Pacific Fighters was just released and that will add onto the Gold Pack. It may sound like a lot, but the amount of gameplay that you will get from $70 worth of software is mind boggling.

Oleg Maddox is by far the hardest working developer out there. He listens to our suggestions (sometimes whines), and works his butt off to make us happy.

Make sure you have a joystick. You do not want to cheat yourself by flying with a keyboard.

I'm sure there's a ton that I am missing but I'm willing to bet there are other helpful people here that will inform you of other things.

Good luck with your purchases and welcome again. Hope to see you in Hyperlobby.

Welcome! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Say, are you a member of the NR2003 forum over at TheUSPits.com?

Welcome aboard!! Hit the Sturmovik Essentials link in my sig. Lots of good info about the sim series and just stuff.... plus Luckyboy's guide can be found at AirWarfare.com. If you dont have it I suggest you get the FB GOLD pack with FB and the AEP. It is actually going for $29 in most places. Think of it as a $60 5 CD sim you are buying. You won't be disapointed.

Go here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=frm&s=400102&f=48310655) to look for a squad or just go into HL and see who you hook up with. Feel free to join any coops the 99th is running. There is VEF and VWF (Virtual Western/Eastern Front) I believe. Warclouds has a nice server. Just take your time. The sim is great.

I have Hyperlobby sitting on my desktop ready to go. Thank you. Yes I have joystick a Microsoft sidewinder 2. I haven't had it connected in years. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif.

I will have to d/l the software for it. Is there a recommended update for it with these titles? (Win XP) If anyone knows.

No I just lurked over there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The pits are a great bunch.

The NR2003 forums by in large were always pretty good. The first person shooter forums seem to be the worse. I just need some time away from the driving sims. It started to be like work.

Thank you for the suggestion. Do you think there would be any issues if I decide to go with PF first then add the other titles after the fact. Kind of backwards installation deal http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have been looking all over for the post with all the links in it DOH! It was in your sig lol.

Heading off to bookmark sites.

Thanks all

Welcome aboard dude.

It wouldn't hurt to buy FB gold pack. This has the FB and AEP. You get lots and lots and lots of planes lol.

I noticed there is a site for profiles for the X45 joystick.

Does anyone know where I can find a profile for a Microsoft Sidewinder 2?

Thanks in advance

Not sure about the X45, Bearcat or a few others might know. Welcome aboard. ANd as BC said, feel free to join up on our squad in HL too. We are the 361st in FB and the 318th in PF. We should be the 318th from now on(installed all together FB+AEP+PF. Oh and dont forget, this game has a steeeeeep learning cuve, so dont get too fustrated. Have fun. Thats what I do. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oh and stay on Ivans good side lol.

Regarding X45 - Tully__ is a good source of info - ask nicely and he'll send you his profile.

Thanks anyway I do not have the X45, I have a Microsoft force feedback sidewinder 2.

I noticed in the links that Bearcat pointed me to that there was a page for profiles for the X45.

I was wondering if there was a page with a profiles for my joystick also of if anyone point me in the right direction.

Thank you

N9493K, welcome to the boards from another new face. I'm still using my Microsoft Sidwinder PRO. I didn't need any software for my joystick, XP supports it just go to game controlers in your control panel. I have the Original IL-2 and I bought the AEP Gold pack and my only problem is deciding which plane to fly.

Owlsphone, thanks for the HyperLobby link! I have been needing to get it and wasn't sure where.

For the question you asked about backwards installing, i.e. getting PF first and then adding on the Gold pack; well, nothing wrong with it.

However, I think you may have to unistall PF once you try to install the Gold Pack. Im not positive but from what I have read (and understand) it will only install together once you have FB+AEP+patched to 2.4? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

And welcome to the forums, the guys here are great helpers with historical, technical, and flying tips. They have some pretty hilarious posts floating around too. You will have no troubles here.

Best way to install everything is like this

FB then AEP then PF. No patching required. all patches are on the disks and are implemented into the install.

You can install pf then FB+AEP. Just install the FB+AEP then put your PF disk in the drive, when the prompt displays with the start button tell it to install over FB+AEP. I did it that way, I hit the wrong install. Installed the standalone first. Sometimes I amaze myself. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
