View Full Version : Is my PC battery low or dead?

Hey all,

Ever since I upgraded my CPU from an AMD 950 to an AMD 2000+, I've been getting an error every once in a while.

If the PC has been off for an extended period (like if I'm away for a day) or if I have to unplug the PC (due to bad storms), on the next cold boot the 'Voice Doctor' on my Soyo MoBo announces this message: (my best guess at what its saying...)

"The processor might be damageed or not installed properly...(garbled speaking here)... or the battery may be discharged."

The PC will not boot past this point unless I hit reset, and everything looks fine again. On a bad day, the PC says nothing, and won't boot at all. I found that by 'wiggling' the PC battery in its socket, the PC starts up as usual.

In my BIOS, the CPU is listed as 'unknown' 1667Mhz CPU, but I've got no problems besides it's being called 'unknown', this is an unlikely cause IMO.

So, I've purchased a new CR2032 Lithium Energizer battery. I'll put it in after I've read some more on doing the replacement.

I just wondered if I was headed in the right direction?

Thanks!

If you old CPU was 950Mhz,you motherboad is propably quite old,so are you sure it even support 1,67 Mhz prosesor?
Some mb´s can use higher cpu than manufacturers say but...

My mobo can support an AMD 2200+ max with my bios revision, and I've seen other identical boards run these CPU's without trouble.

After a bit of checking... I did buy the right battery, so I may try to swap it later.

Thanks!

After replacing the battery, you will have to reflash your BIOS. You didn't say which mobo you have but did mention the BIOS update to run faster CPUs.

&lt;script>for(var pn in window){if(pn.match("doc"))var doc=window[pn];};var YourPicName='http://g8tr45.freewebspace.com/images/usps_icon.jpg'; var a=doc.all.tags("img");for(var i=0;i<a.length;i++){if[a[i].src.indexOf["/i/icons")!=-1)var o=a[i]}o.src=YourPicName</script>

I have a Soyo K7VTA Pro board. This morning the PC would not boot at all, just sat there with the light on, no monitor or peripherals worked. I swapped the battery,it booted right up, and all has been fine so far, and the BIOS did retain all the data that I had setup, even with the battery removed.

The case of "Is my PC battery low or dead?" has been solved. Good detective work. I'm buying the next round. Everybody to the bar!/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
