I picked the Gladiator for the awesome cockpit but for one on one dogfights the CR.42 has the edge .. at least when I'm flying the Gladiator it does lol.

I've never been a fan of either the Glad or the Fiat, though I've used them quite a bit. My favorite "shootin' arn" is the I-153 against either of them. I like the 153 'cause its a maneuverable bipe without the bipe's visibility penalty.

Nate! Gutless, poor, little, wimpy thing. Dives like a butterfly. I-153s eat 'em like air!

BTW Glad 0wns both Tchaika and Falco.........in a turnfight......but I suspect they can do **** to the Glad anyway.......

Of that class, P.11c is by far the worst PoS.......it frikkin doesn't even have the pit lights..... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Gladiator, because it's faster down low, and climbs a bit better, although I think Cr42 is better for BnZ attacks. Don't really like those early cr@p planes too much anyway...

Gladiator---pleah. Nice grandmotherly airplane. CR 42? Yeah, sure. Italian hot rod. Fast and furious.

the weapon change (in game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ) from .50cal Browning to 12,7mm SAFAT made the situation for the Fiat more difficult.
with this weapons its even more difficult to shoot down the Gladiator.
but the Falco is burning very fast under the fire from the Galdiator 4x .303 Brownings.

"nice" in the Falco is that you can fly full power, cooler open amlost all the time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
the only advantage it has is its better acceleration , beacuase of its CSP in comparison to the Gladiators fixed Propeller.

One on one dogfight, Gladiator.

BnZ fight, CR 42 ftw.

I still remember pking a 109K in a CR 42 and flaming a Ki-84 in a Gladiator http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Man those were the days.

I'd have to go with the Falco, from my experiences it can outrun and outclimb the Gladiator with ease.

Well flown CR42 should have no problem killing a Gladiator....

IS WHAY I WAS GOING TO SAY>>>>>>

Then I checked IL2 COMPARE.....There is no more than 10kmh between the speeds of these planes all the way up to 4.5K m .Needless to say the Gladiator turns the heck out of the CR42........
These figures were for Gladiator II and NOT J8A which may be faster(?)
Maybe I'll give em a try off line later....Visibility is terrible in the beautiful J8A cockpit
50cal mgs in Fiats seem more potent than in the much moaned about Macchis (Set your convergence to 100m and get in close!!!)Maybe its the angle theyre mounted at or something?Would prefer tehm to 4x0.303s....

CR.42 is uber. And prior to 4.07 those guns would kill tanks!

As far as I'm concerned.....it feels like someone simply turn off the light when Hurri is in question.
It really fits nowhere......except maybe battling with 109E or bombers.
Otherwise it suffers very badly.......in IL-2 46 V4.08.

Falco owns the gladiator http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif. Every time you are in doubt just point your nose towards the sky and spiralclimb. Is nothing the gladiator can do to keep up.
Is like flying 109F2 vs I-16.

Because the planes that can be compared are not flyable or not even present.Ms 406 and He 112 are not available to us.Man,I couldn't imagine that this plane was so **** before I "flew" it.Reading too much "FLYPAST" made us believe that it was better that it really was.No wonder that Hurricane aces were so few,and just an indication how great pilot M. Pattle was.

Were talking in game right? In that case it has to go to the Gladiator simply because it absorbs much more damage. The Cr42 has a better view but I dont think it turns quite as well.

Damn, i think im the only one that loves biplane fights...in my point of view biplane dogfights requires a bit more skills than the regular aircraft due to the fact that these lasts have fuel injection, closed canopy, better armament etc..etc.. (in the game and also in real life too)

I'd pick the Falco because its speed, but the Gladiator have better guns, so its a tie to me.

It requires a different style of fighting but the tactics are the same so I would not say its harder or requires more skill at all. Actually I find it much easier to manage a biplane simply because of the slow speed. But anyway if you love this style of fighting then you should seriously look for Raven's server on Hyperlobby called Guts n Glory. The server runs skin download on and you have to get the correct skins and netcache to play there. http://www.ravenskins.com/RaVenskinsWW1.html

I'd go with the gladiator. Although the Cr 42 will win in the energy fight its hard to BnZ when your engine cuts out under negative g and the Gladiator excells at the close in knife fight. The gladiator takes a ton of punishment and you can really yank and bank on the controls without losing control.

If you've not yet seen it, there is plenty of Biplane action in the Machinima movie, "Faith, Hope, and Charity". You can find download links by going first to the FH&C Website (http://www.wingmenproductions.com/content/movie.html)

The Mirror2 link will provide a Streaming version as well as download(a 650Mb AVI file)

Please understand that the movie is a dramatized/fictionalized version of historical events, and not intended to be a documentary, accurate in every technical aspect to the minutest degree. Again, those interested in Gladiators and CR42's might enjoy this little movie.

The Gladiator. For no other reason than its a Gladiator.

gladitor is cooler, but the j8a is way down on performance, the falco can easily just spiral climb above it and theres nothing much the gladiator can do, i've gone against 2 human glads at a time doing that, only issue is u don't have enough ammo, half the time u both run outa ammo even with high acc and keep flying :P

If you cut throttle to 0% when you dive the engine doesnt go out
