You just ain't gonna believe this one...

What you're saying is true, but you have to remember that for every Il-2 player there are hundreds of Doom 3, Half-Life 2 and Far Cry players.

As Spock would say - "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few... or one!"

Here's the e-mail, you tell me if it is true, especially the "if we can get more than 10 reported issues, it will help raise the priority on this issue"...

Regarding IL-2 Forgotten Battles - Pacific Fighters issues:

Hi Mark, I've tried calling you back but got a busy signal; the only feedback I've received from the Product Specialists is that there hasn't been enough reported cases on this issue, so what I need you to do is to post up a topic on the forum notifying users who are experiencing this issue to submit Catalyst feedback on the form found here:

He mentioned that if we can get more than 10 reported issues, it will help raise the priority on this issue. So in short, try to get as many people to report it, and keep the name of the game as conformed as possible.

example "IL-2 Forgotten Battles - Pacific Fighters" typed in the field "Application/Game Title and Version: * The application that demonstrates the issue"

When you think you've gotten as many people to submit as possible, email me back and I'll confirm they have received the reports.

The problem is already being looked at by the Catalyst driver team and several Beta testers that play the IL2 Sturmovik series.

Well, lets ask for a show of hands. (Raises hand) I filed my report with ATI about the texture issues back with the release of 4.12. You shouldn't have to refile with every driver release if the problem wasn't addressed. Could be they "reset the calender" with every release, though, and begin counting grips anew. Looking at the ATI forums you'll see some issues (like the disappearing cursor when using Gemstar+ that comes with their AIW and tv tuner cards) have been ongoing for years.

Hunter and Coastie in contact with Oleg, 1C Graphics designer and ATI working on this issue.

You are talking to a middle-man Lucky...Hunter hits all the way to the top LOL http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Scares me sometimes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

p.s. I haven`t had a single graphical problem with IL2 series, except the new exe textures thingy. GF2 GTS -> ti4200 -> 9700PRO -> 9800XT.

There is no complaint about the effort being put in by you and Hunter82 on this matter. But how you gonna fix what you can't replicate?

Actually, I'm 99% sure what the problem is. See the link I left to the other thread for details.

02-04-2005, 10:37 PM
They were able to reproduce it

Still, I'm 99% sure what is wrong. I just need a bit of cooperation from those who would benefit the most from this deal! See the link that I left in my original posting in this thread for details.

ATI has lost me as a long time customer,I have
problems with their latest wonder card and was promised HL2 which never happened and emails go unanswered.Lost me as a customer. Will be buying from their opposition in future. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
As will anybody I can convince. This is a middle finger for ATI not a thumbs up. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

To be honest I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I've never had any problems with graphics im Il-2 or any other game for that matter. The only anomalies are apparent when I overclock to hard http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jasko76, this lies at the heart of the issue. Your not having any problems graphically is not unusual, many haven't either. However, many others have and that's part of why the issue has dragged on for many game and driver updates now, because it is not univeral, not readily duplicated and sometimes only happens under certain conditions. Usually it's for those of us running an ATI card in Perfect detail mode and even then only on some maps or only online, etc. I've tried the Catalyst 4.11, 4.12 and 5.1 drivers, all with the same anomoly whereas reverting to the 4.10's are totally free of the texture corruption. CrazyIvan says Hunter82 has been able to duplicate the problem. That's good to hear because earlier this week he said he had not. Now maybe we'll get some results. Here's what it looks like on my machine:

I see! That is really bad and irritating! Is it constant or just appears randomly? Do nVIDIAs have any similar problems, cause that's where my money may go next time!

As far as I can tell from the forum posts, it's peculiar to ATI. In my experience, I could get it to happen with the 4.11 and 4.12 drivers anytime I played a particular co-op mission using the South Japan map online and the effect was immediate. Reverting to the Cat 4.10 and playing the exact scenario online is glitch free. I tested the Cat 5.1 upon its release using the same "litmus test" and did not have the texture corruption. However, I had never had a problem online with the Mediterranean map and the 5.1's glitched. I tried dropping from Perfect to Excellent detail and the corruption persisted. Again, the 4.10's have been flawless and I can measure no significantly lesser performance with them.

So many variables in hardware configuration, software and settings makes this kind of problem especially difficult to resolve. Initially it was reported that 1C: was saying it was an ATI problem, ATI was saying it was a 1C: problem and the customer was in the middle, unserved by the lack of cooperation. CrazyIvan says they are now working together, which is the first significant step toward finally taking care of the problem. Nvidia's heretofore higher installed user base made it attractive for developers to cater to. ATI has made gains in market share and have excellent hardware, but that's only part of the equation. Superior hardware without commensurate software support is the death knell for videocard makers. ATI overcame that stigma several years ago and have profitted from it. It would be a shame to see them snatch defeat from the jaws of victory because they forgot lessons learned in the past.

9800pro here with latest cat€s but no CCC. I get this cr@p as indicated above by Spectre but I€ve figured out what not to do, so it isn€t an issue.

It only happens for me when I change graphical settings during a session, i.e. from perfect landscape to excellent etc. So if the need arises I change settings, come out of FB/PF, reload it and then all is well.

Didn€t this all start with the Beta and Jet java?

I have said this before, but I beleive that the ATI people are good folks, and they have a certain style of gpu that renders digital 3d better than anything I have seen so far . . . BUT . . .

After these last couple of years following the Catalyst suite of drivers, I have decided that ATI's driver development team must be one frustrated bunch of folks! Loading my own color profiles into a 3D app only works when it wants to, very random. And that is ANY 3D app. I first saw the graphic corruption that is the issue at hand two driver sets ago. I reloaded the game, and voila! No problem. However, its not that simple now. It can occur randomly with the new drivers.

I have simply decided that, although I have been treated very well by ATI, a good set of drivers from ATI before I get my next, ahem (clears throat), Nvidia card, well . . . I don't think it will happen.
