In my campaign my JG has just been refitted to the A5 from the A4. Is it my imagination or is the A4 alot more manouverable than the A5.

In which regard?

If I recall, the A-4 was essentially an A-3 with different radio gear, and the A-5 was essentially an A-4 with the CG moved by a forward fuselage length increase, back to where it should have been, had the new radio equipment not been installed

Might make the A-5 more stable- but that could also translate into slight less manueverability in the pitch axis

It's not your imagination. In game, the A4 has the sweetest flight model of the FW190As. It's just a tad slow.

The A5 is quite a bit heavier. Faustnik could quote the number for you.

it is not about weight. I think is about center of gravity (A5 is also longer than A4). Anyway.. A4 holds E better and turns better. If A5 Ata 1.65 was an A4... WWWoooow. Thatis why we ask so much about an A4 at 1.42 ata

The "new" A-5 doesn't come flaweless it seems. Ata drops in vertical manouvers, and its climb rate is, well, a little fishy.

This chart http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/robban75/chart10.jpg shows the difference in climb rate between the 4.02 1.42 ata A-5, and the new 4.03 1.65 ata A-5.

did you remade test with 4.03 Ata 1.42 A5? maybe it is even worse :P

Also the drop does not seem to be simple related to vertical. But to speed. It seems there is a correlaction ebtween max ata at given speed.

Oleg told soemthing about device to keep ATA controled within certain constraingts..

Try again.. just don´t let your speed drop below 310 IAS. It wil bahave normaly (only gradual ata loss due to height until charger kicks in)

I climb at 280km/h IAS, and at the higher alts I climb at 270km/h IAS. This was the 190's best climb speed in RL.

Made some more tests. In spitfire language we have A FW190 L.F. :P And one that does not like lower speeds.

The speed issue I think is related to K gerat trying to setup things up.

Also it behaves exaclty like a FW A8 engine. That is the L.F stuff. The blower it is set to change gear at 2200 meters not 3300 as 1.42 ata version. So it drops pressure much faster. In fact at 1200 meters it is holding only 1.42 ATA.

Same happens to F8 version.

After you reach 2200 or 2300 meters the ATA will kick back to 1.65...

When flying the A4 I was ruling the skies over 42' Russia. It was turning like a dream and was not encountering much of turn problems of the later models. Speed wasn't bad either.
I find much of what I was doing in the A4, which was basically flyng all over the place with relative impunity against Yaks and P-40s now is much more difficult. The A5 seems to fight me at every turn.
I had just naturally assumed that the A5 would be the superior dog fighter and never really gave the A4 much of a look but how wrong I was.
thanks y'all.

there is a strang thing this patch.. where we are suppose to get some better blue planes.. only to find out that they are actually worse in some VERY important aspects of a blue plane period. K 4 is overall worse.. A5 overall worse.. meanhwile, new spit is a 1950's full military prop plane
