Great stuff, thanks for posting!
I really like the sound of that bird. Almost 109like with that hint of a whistle.

I believe it runs with an Allison engine

WHite 17.. Well this is not the original name of the plane at all.. and... they added the airscoop.. beark! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

We build that plane, painted that plane, I flew that plane many times we even blew one engine mid air on that plane and cherished it.. I even have my name on it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Original number is 08..
This paint scheme is a special one as well.

I'm glad the new owner show it to the public again..

Are you serious??? Please tell me more here or by PM http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

What was it like to rebuild?? What was your role? How long did it take? What were the costs like? How does one become involved in such a rebuild?

Negative. This is a rebuilt/new build Yak-9U built entirely of metals rather than the half wooden construction of the original. These were constructed by Yakolev in the 1990s for airshows. The engine is a Allison engine...not sure which model but that was what was picked because there are still engines built and rebuilt and lots of parts to spare.

Stunning video BTW!

Definitely a V-1710. The carb air intake scoop on top of the fuselage is the give away.

Thats interesting because the VK-107 in the late model Yak-9U's also needed that kind of arrangement. So it looked very authentic to me...threw me off at first glance.

they had either 2 yak 9's and 1 yak 3 or the other way round. one of them seemed to have a problem with it's tail wheel after the baldo display. landed and it had either collapsed or not lowered in the first place, was stuck out on the field for quite some time...

Wow, the take off run in the game for the Yak-9 is about 5 times that! Does this thing have an authentic period engine or is the take off run model in IL2 porked a bit? Seems most planes of the period had shorter takeoff runs so it might be a problem across the board for all planes in the game. Possibly the ground effect is inadequately modeled?
