There is an old stately home near me called Blickling Hall. During the War it mess for RAF 2 and 100 group chaps. Today there is even a small museum dedicated to Oulton airfield and the hall in WW2.

It is also the venue where the future Mrs Whirlin and myself will get hitched next summer!

A nice story from Blenheim gunner Sgt Jim 'Dinty' Moore.

' On one memorable evening having spent the evening in Norwich imbibing more than his share of the local ale, [he] took a fancy to one of those yellow balls on top of a pedestrian crossing sign. He purloined this, bringing it back joyfully to the hall, where he deposited it in the garden. The following morning the head gardener emerged from his cottage and, having heard warnings of explosive devices being dropped by the Luftwaffe hurridly alerted the bomb squad. On their arrival these gentlemen were not impressed and their comments unprintable!'
