If you don't know how to format/reinstall, go to your BIOS (to enter that, your computer will say "Hit F2 to enter Setup/BIOS" or something like that on start-up, you need to hit whatever key it tells you) and make sure that your CD Drive is at the top in your boot sequence. Then just insert the XP CD (assuming you have XP) and restart and follow the on-screen prompts.

Again assuming you have XP, before formatting, I would download the Service Pack 2 offline installer and save it to a CD or something. Because if you go online to download SP2 after formatting, you'll be very vulnerable to viruses and worms.

Also, after formatting, the drivers you should install are:
video drivers
sound drivers
chipset/mobo drivers
monitor drivers
any other peripheral drivers

Then you should be good to go.

However you connect to the Internet - make sure you have necessary drivers, usernames and passwords before you format.

Make sure you backup your user profile (c:\documents and settings\(logon name) so you save all of your favorites, mail and other settings.

Make sure you save all your games, music, etc. I learned the hard way...

hello m8 if you are going to format i suggest you partion your hard drive ( it can only be done when formatting ) partion it into two parts "c" one for windows & "d" one for everything else you want to keep, i installed fb+aces+pf onto "D" so when i reinstall windows i dont lose anything ive saved a lot of work stuff skins etc by doing it this way. I agree with buglord. I have 2 hard drives, and my main HD has a partition that has only windows on it. Windows is on C, every other thing I install goes elsewhere. It makes reformatting a reletively painless process.

I too learned the hard way... but with me it took a few extra lessons, lol.
