Yes, in the leaked beta, the colors of the Pacific map were just great, I had the feeling to fly over the islands of "The Red Thine Line".

And now, colors of the beaches and the lands are just like the colors I've been seeing for the past three years over Ukraine. Even, the color of the ocean looks different. Sad /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Cheers,

P.S. Btw, it would be great to have for the Normandy colors green colors more "green"!

I have not noticed yet (flying @ sunset), but the green was just spot on the way it was in the leaked beta!
The water rather, had to be more torquise, and it doesn't look like that right now (@ sunset...).

Hmmm i like these changes...

BUT

Wasn't there any changes to the Water color planned ? If so, well i can't see any changes. The Pacific has many lagoons and stuff like this. I think that we should have more GREENISH & AQUA colors in the water surrounding the island. That would be VERY VERY VERY NICE and more realistic to many player's eyes. That would also bring in some 'Life' to the sim.

Bump!

Pacifip map colors were great! The color of the beaches were just perfect, now they look horrible!

Don't listen to the "teletubbies" fanclub for the colors /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Its an onwhine dogfight map, there is no realism anyway.

XyZspineZyX

ANy body have apicture of what they used to look like? I agree these colors are very drab (especially ocean) for the tropics.

"Its an onwhine dogfight map, there is no realism anyway."

In a sense, you're right.

Why the hell lose time to develop realistic maps to see in online dogfights for instance Italian Messerschmitts over the Pacific or Polish Zeros over Normandy. It's so fun to see these carefully modeled aircrafts with funky colors and phantasy marking. Correct skins are just uninteresting, after all FB is for fuuuuun, not for people interested in aviation.

In fact, the fastest way to add new maps would be simply to adapt some Warcrafts maps for FB! Some Halo maps would be cool too, pink skies are just so pretty!

So, with this game approach, to ask for realistic colors on a map is just silly and useless, I agree with you /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif okay.

Ask Oleg to make a very simple 500km x 500km ocean map with only small barren islands, many having airfields--but with *alot* of empty ocean to cross too. No Polynesian villages. Easy map to make. Oleg's team could do this in one day. Then we worry about little things like water colours. Running out of fuel, alone, over ocean may have been just as scary as dogfighting. All the major Pacific fighters had great range.

Dusk began to fall. Fuel too was getting low. My time is up I thought, and unconsciously turned my gaze to the sinking sun. At that moment, silhouetted in the sinking orb of the sun I could see two or three tiny bean-like objects. Those were ships!

Ok, for the color of the beaches:

(beaches color on the leaked beta was just perfect)

And for the color of the sea, I would like to see something like that:

Now all we need is a discussion as to whether everyone is using color managment and calibrated displays!! :-))

Seriously though, I liked the leaked beta colors better too. I also hope they take a chainsaw to the palmtrees because they REALLY kill FPS!!

I'd say...EXELENT whine. Finally, we get the backup we need on what we keep saying. Hope they'll do something with this. But i bet they might just close their eyes on that sibject since it would take too long (a whole day) to make.. hehe.

Well, let's cross our fingers to have such colors in the Pacific Ocean.

Another point in argument for realistic colours is that the online maps may be used for `mods` by fans, making them usable for offline campaigns if Oleg doesn`t incorporate them for it.

XyZspineZyX
11-11-2003, 07:16 PM
No, in fact, colors in the Pacific can be very different.

Very gorgous on some islands, and completely sinister on other ones.

Colors of the sea can be also very different. I remember a story of a WWII pilot who said he could know where he was flying just by looking the different colors of the sea!

To say the truth, I would like to see similar colors like in the "Red Thin Line".

Yes CHDT, i noticed that colors changed on pacific map. I`m not sure if it`s for better or worse... but the main issue is still standing...heavy FPS drop near palm trees. I didn`t see any noticable changes at all in that area.

I did a little test... Normal trees vs palm trees.
1280x960x32 DX all exellent 4AA, 16FA

Normal forest 0m altitude, BF109K4 Cockpit
Looking forward: 74FPS
Side: 78FPS

Palm trees, same alt, same plane.
Looking forward 44FPS
Side view 46FPS

We are talking 30 frames drop here. BTW, those tests are done off line, for online subtract 10fps from all results.

Pacific map is one of my favorites, but many people with average system complaining about stutter near the islands... I hope it`s somehow adjusted in the final release.

You're right, but these palm trees are damn pretty!

I think it could be cool to have more generic Pacific maps with greater distances between islands for navigation challenges‚¬®

There's also one point I liked very much on the south-west island of the Pacific map: the topology of the island, these small hills are beautiful, after two years of playing over Russland, I'm bored with flat landscapes!

LOL... 100% agree with you.. quite tired flying over grassland.

Time to move on over the Pacific. That would be great to have a map where we can use all of our fuel capacity (Drop tanks included).

Would be nice not to be forced to fly around the map to do so.. and fly over the Pacific. The Pacific should be all about GREAT DISTANCES or it's not the pacific.

Ah ah! Uh uh! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

In fact, Italians flew Messerschmitts (and other German planes) in spades! Especially, the ANR of northern Italy late in the war had few Italian made planes available (unfortunately), and had to rely on imported aircraft a lot.

Anyway, I vote for those "holiday resorts' postcards" above: that's what I have in mind, thinking of the tropics.

On the palm trees (which BTW I think are gorgeous), I believe their number has been reduced already, from the leaked beta.

Also, Oleg stated that with the add-on, might come an "FPS-friendly" Pacific map, too...

I`m not sure if number of trees was reduced or something else was changed , yes there is an improvement by approx 5 frames...but still, global FPS killer. Agreed that palm trees are very good looking /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Never tried the leaked beta.
But, I can post some observations.
It seems that lighting is intense on this map. I mean really intense. Maybe it' because of this. Also, surface of the sea looks worse than any other in FB.

XyZspineZyX

Oleg..if you see this post.. can you reply plz?

MOst of us would like to have the sea colors changed like the pictures above. Some others says there still too much trees but i think it's just fine. I never lagged in the Pacific map.

PLease..consider a change of water coloration.

its a question of taste i guess, personally i would like more lively and vivid colours, i am quite fed up with the dreary colours, i was actually looking forward to something more blue and turquoise, now its this greenish grey stuff again...brrr...makes me want to wear a winterjacket....

Still, love the islands, with perfect water it looks soo good...unfortunately cant dogfight with it, too low fps...but you should have a look with perfect..but on excellent its a bit disappointing, not as fitting as in other maps where i actually prefer excellent to perfect.

Full Real Deal.......

The jungle inside the islands are freakish GREEN.

Palm trees are ugly in FB and real life. I used to trim palm trees. Oleg's normal FB "Siberian" forests will work just fine for Pacific.

I am still waiting to see a pony pooper get to the much adverised "high altitude" before meeting Ki~84 over the 20km dogfight lagoon. Onwhine Pony poopers may consider going back to the much larger "ocean island" map lifted from the Gulf of Finland map.

Is there any way to Delete the Pacific map, without comment, from hard disk?

XyZspineZyX
11-12-2003, 09:09 PM
WHy do you want to delete the Pacific map ?? Just don't play with it if you don't like it.

I do like it but as i said.. We need Turquoise color in the Ocean. To me.. if there wouldn't be any plam trees... this map would simply be another normal island map. The only things that changes it is it's palm trees.

Now, if Oleg wants a pacific map.. it needs Turquoise color in it's water and larger area..since the Pacific means HUGE distances.

If we're going to ask real colors, why not real scenarios? We desperately need them to make our own campaigns in FMB. What about some Pacific action instead of 'Warbirds' exhibitions over fantasy worlds?

I agree with you... but during the making of the map...why haven't they put the right colors to the Ocean? I see no difference between playing over the ocen of the Pacific map and the Ocean over the Kuban map. If there wasn't any palm trees... we could not call it a Pacific map, that's the only point it has to be called a Pacific map.

Wow, I thought I was alone... I just came into ORR to post about the sound driver since today is Thursday, and find this thread. I too was thinking that the colors of the pacific map are almost the same as flying over Stalingrad or anywhere else for that matter.

Yes, the colours are not too right, I agree, but that's not the point! The point being how rude and demanding these children become for a cheap piece of software (in case they actually paid for it).
About the palm trees, actually most of these complainers would even take 'em out of the map...

I 100% agree with you. I'm very thankfull to Oleg and his work. But yes, i may look like complaining, forgive me if i been seen like so.

Yes.. i request some stuff. But i think that if these things (like the Ocean Color) could be fixed... that could only help the sim to be more 'immersive' & realistic. That's all.

I'm thankfull to Oleg and his team.. without them we wouldn't have the sims we got in our hand right now. But just requesting few fixes.

I agree with you, olegs support over a so long time needs respect.
But you always have to look at another point. Sure, Pacific map and planes are for free, but it also caught new people for this game. More people may buy the game and bring more money to the producers.
But that is ok, I think.
The point of this topic is the ocean colour. I think it should be fixed, maybe not directly, but for the pay addon it would be nice to see more real colours.
I remember a post, where oleg said, that he wants to create the complete pacific theatre in the futer, maybe. So my oppinion is that its not a bad beginning with correcting the reality of the ocean. The most important part of this warroom.

XyZspineZyX
11-14-2003, 12:21 AM
Jabo.. u're the man /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

You said it all and i 100% agree with you. Hope that Oleg will 'at least' consider a change into his ocean colors. Maybe for the pay add on.

I don't care waiting for changes until the pay add on but as long as the colours are changed to more realistic ones.

I also seen the same thing as you, Oleg said that he will maybe consider a Pacific add on somewhen. Never said when, it's not even sure, but as you said Jabo, i'm prety sure that a Pacific add on would bring many people to this sim.

You can count all 300 players still playing on CFS2, they'll come to IL-2 (or what ever the name would be) for sure.

I Really love IL-2, but i also miss CFS2 a lot for it's vast scenery and ocean colours, switchable fuel tanks. The rest, it's all IL-2 that wins it.
