View Full Version : How do I get to target specific points?

I had a few random times the ability to target specific points on a ship using the ID book, but I can't seem to recreate it anymore.
Is it range specific? I tried anything 300+ and nothing.specific angle?I think I tried everything 0-90 and am not getting the clickable hotspots in the ID book no matter what I do.
I play using manual TDC option, but I mostly let the WO get a solution for me.

Clickable hot spots in the ID manual?!?!

Been playing non-stop since the game came out- never even heard of this.

Are you sure you aren't confusing this with the mod someone did that shows where the different compartments are in the ID manual?

I'm not insane yet... Though the voices claim otherwise. (shut up) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

At some point, I had the ability to click on some hotspots under the ship's photo, for places like fuel bunker, engine, keel etc'. I know about the mod that makes these hotspots colorised by critical levels (red, yellow)
but I had this ability withouth the actual colors, and I had it randomly.

That's really in the game. The problem is, it isn't visible all the time. The vulnerabilities only seem to appear when you are A) less than 1000 meters from the target and more than 300 meters (minimum range), B) have a gyroangle of between 345-15 degrees, and C) have a decent side position. I am sure C is an AOB restriction, but I haven't been able to isolate it. 45 degrees and it won't appear, it's there at 75 degrees, and I'm not sure exactly what the break point is.

However, you don't target them by clicking on the spot in the book. That's just to show you where they are. You hit them by aiming for it. Want to hit the fuel bunkers? You've got to figure out how far below the waterline to run the torpedo, and aim for that area of the ship. I've sort of found the sweet spot on the C3 cargo ship. Get into a side shot position. Set torpedo depth to 4.5 meters, impact detonation. Input the correct range and speed, if you're using manual TDC. Wait until the gyro angle is 5 degrees past zero, whichever way the C3 is going, and then fire at the point where the side of the hull is just beginning to rise in front of the superstructure. I've killed at least 5 with that setting, with a single torpedo.

I knew I'm not insane http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But youre wrong, when I clicked the compartment, it actually overrides my depth setting.
I was surprised the first time, because I was planning for a mag-detonation under keel like I mostly do, and I couldn't change the depth. It kept jumping back to five from ten. So I looked in the scope and book, one of the compartments was clicked on, and I could change it too.
It actually kept the aiming point on the specific part of the ship and the required depth. But I can't make it appeare by choice.
Last mission, I had it when I attacked a single C3 and one shot aimed and the fuel tank sunk it.
But later in the mission I had a full convoy stripped of it's destroyer escort, yet I coudln't recreate on on over 15 ships, no matter whate range or angle.

With auto targeting you can click on those spots and it will automatically aim at them.

I've been playing with manual targeting from the beginning though. Maybe some bug caused it to show up randomly with the manual targeting as well?

I don´t understand why they don´t make those informations available all the time...
Made me nuts when I got the game and remembered a screenshot or video with those "sweet spots" shown but I couldn´t find it in the game.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I mean, a real captain either had those infos or he didn´t have them. It´s not like an officer got the "special version" of the recognition handbook out of a safe only when the Kaleun had a "perfect" solution inside the parameters described by quillan...

"Hey, 1WO, get me that recognition handbook, I forgot where the fuel bunkers are on those C3´s!"
"Sorry Sir, you now how BDU thinks about using this book when not having a perfect solution! Get a bit closer and you may see it... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif"

So what is a perfect solution considerd?
Also, I have read and reread the manual, I can't find any mention on this option.

Would be glad if I knew...
What quillan describes above sounds pretty good:

...but it doesn´t work all the time for me, even when inside those parameters.

I'll do some tests with a immobile target to check this out. The tutorial or build a mission in the editor.

How about this mod (http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches/MerchantVulnMod.zip)? Patch 1.2 wasn't even bothered by it's presence.
