great game this Pacific fighters, combat damage effects are very good, but would it take much to create even better ones? Lots more smoke after a raid, no better sight than a Jap carrier dead in the water with columns of black smoke which you could see for miles..........

Open up your conf.ini file in the main game directory. Scroll down to the section that says Render_OpenGL and look for option that says effects=1. Change this setting to effects=2 and see if that is enough to make you happy. It puts a bigger load on the computer but it's well worth it.

As GK-66SS says, more effects means poorer game performance. The effects level has been set to try and not impact too much on game performance for the "average" gamer. Flight simulations that are trying to simulate lots of aircraft simultaneously are really hard on PC performance, much more so than shooter style games. Damage graphics have to be carefully scaled with that in mind if the game is to sell well.

For custom missions is relatively simple to acomplish that using the new fire and smoke objects, but unfortunately the distasnce at wich they appear is very small.
btw, please don't use the term "jap" anymore. It is a banable offense.
