Hi all,

I've been away for a few months from SH3 and just installed it again on my new PC. Obviously I'll be starting from scratch but I was wondering before i get stuck in what are the best mods out there? I have just installed the official patches and nothing else. Its hard to say without spending hours reading every message what the pro's and cons of every mod made so if some people can give me a run down of the 'must haves' that would save me so much time. By the way that is the reason why I am asking in the first place - lack of time. I only have internet at work for the time being so I cant spend much time on these boards unfortunately http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
From what i remember from my first outing playing the game one thing that i wanted fixed was the crews lack of stamina. I would like this mod (as i am sure its been done by someone) and anything else would be a bonus.
Many thanks!

I guess one of the most important mods is Real Uboat 1.43 . And the other is Sub Commander (?)

Most highly recommended to assist you with installing mods is the JoneSoft mod installer. It will automatically backup your game files when you install a mod. If you later decide to use it to uninstall a mod, it will restore your files to the pre-install state. It works very well; I've had no problems at all when using it.

It is best to install mods after you have returned from patrol. If you install mods while at sea, it could cause problems. I did that once and I was not able to start the game anymore. It kept crashing. Then I uninstalled what I had done and the game was fine again.

Get it here:

You can also get a few other good mods at this site as well.

Best of luck!

OK, here we go:
First: Jones'Generic Mod Enabler- for easy enabling/diabling your mods.
Then , in random order: RecManualMod.zip (flags in Recognition Manual), ImprovedSmoke1_1.zip (more, better looking smoke on burning ship; there are more smoke mods than just this one), Harbour_Traffic_145c (Friendly ships in friendly ports; 2 versions).
Then the MilitaryMod_juju.zip (hi-res warships textures) and MerchantMod-01 to ..-03 (also by juju; hi-res cargo on merchants and merchant (the ships) textures) but I think this not very noticable as you don't often come close enough to really see the improvements.
I also use some mods to change the interface and navigationmap (DialsFdb2.zip, coursesolver_sh3.zip, SH3MapConvoys.zip).
Recently I heard about the ail sky mod V2.rar (improved skies) and ail hi res moon v2.5 mod.rar, but I haven't installed them yet.

The mods are available at http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files05/patches2005.html#sh3 (with some explanation) or at http://sh3modwork.realsimulation.com/ (no explanation).
the ail mods are available at http://www.ailantd.com/SHIIIMODS/index.html
This is only a (very) short list, as there are many more mods out there.

Thanks guys! Looks like I'm going to be very busy downloading all this at lunchtime http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Some of them sound really cool. I want to get the best and most stable mods so I hope they are as good as they sound.
Thanks again.

And you have a nice list of mods at the Subsim SH3 Mods forum http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
