View Full Version : Think I might have the solution to wobble prob.....

I didn't have the "wobble" prob until patch 4.03, and I got mad of course !
Then I checked the joystick settings in the conf.ini 'cause I had the impression it got worse each time I used the rudder...and I noticed there was a "0" missing in line Z in the [rts_joystick] section, so I added (space) 0 and that was it folks !!!

So should the line read
"Z=0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100"
Or something else?

The Z line is not directly related to any of the joystick axes in the current version. This was noticed in v4.02 as well and helped some but not all who reported the wobbles.

Mind you that this was a fairly well-known solution in 4.02 version, too.

Edit: the zero at the end of these lines has to do with filtering.

Let me show you something weird from the conf.ini of PF v4.02 (stand alone, I play now the merged but I still have also PF stand alone):

1X=5 0 1 3 6 15 25 35 45 55 100 10
1Y=6 0 2 4 8 16 24 32 40 50 100 10
1RZ=5 0 1 3 6 15 25 37 50 60 70 10

First and last number in any line is ****, and I have NOTHING to do with it. The last number which should be 0 can't be changed within game from input section.

The first digit is the dead-band, the last one is filtering.

The truly weird thing about it all (that missing zero in the Z= line, and the wobble-correction-fix by adding it there), is that the X=,Y=,Z= lines were only used in the first version of IL2, up to patch 1.04.
Later versions use the 1X=, 1Y= etc. in which the support for more than one controller is possible.

To me it's very strange that adding that zero to an unused line would fix anything... I can't imagine why!
(But hey, if it fixes the wobble, it's a fix!)

The last number is filtering and there's a slider for it in the game input page. It's one of the two horizontal sliders under the sensitivty sliders:

At some point you've turned up filtering and don't remember doing it, perhaps even in a previous version.

As for the line Dubbo was asking about, in the original IL2 Sturmovik game the sensitivity settings worked a bit differently. In version 1.04 of the original Sturmovik game, the method of interpreting the sliders changed and rather than confusing people by having the response change for the same settings, new conf.ini lines were added for the new scheme. The four or five lines at the top of the [rts_joystick] section of the conf.ini are a legacy of that earlier scheme.

I suspect that some part of the game may still check for those lines and that is why they remain instead of just being replaced with the new line designations, however I'm not aware of any directly predictable result of editing them in the current versions.

I am convinced that the problems called variously "Wobble", "Bouncing", "Oingo Boingo", and others, are actually all seperate issues

Over at SimHQ, I read an interesting thread about P4 users seeming to have the 'wobbles'...while AMD users seem to not even know what the hell people are talking about when they say "My planes wobble"

Some folks have the 'wobble' worse now than in 4.02

All these folks can't be dreaming it up....but I have no idea what is going on, other than it must be a combination of issues if they still have it, or if it's worse now

Thats strange, the 4.03 patch CAUSING wobbles?

My wobbling p51 went away with 4.03, much more stable now. NOt tried the Corsair yet but that was another chief offender.

In another thread I suggested people with wobble problems to record a NTRK. track. As I see it it should get caught so we can see what they mean.
