Ok, so everyone is turning off skin download to prevent lag, good idea.

How about a standard download we could add ourselves to the pull down menu (look at some of the IL2 skins, 190 109 skins) for the upcoming popular P-51?
Something UBI sanctioned?? Download and have them show up in the pull down menu.
I see a couple of the new add-ons already being extremely popular.
This way we could see the checkertail, invasion stripes or whatever and not worry about the lag if you get close to someone with a non standard skin,
AND will the new patch have addressed the problem? Dang, we LOVE our custom skins but its pointless if no one can see them no?

I'm just saying:

I really love custom skins, but when I play on-line I try to only use 512 x 512 skins, which didn't seem to cause a problem back in the old days.

If we have a pull down menu, perhaps we could have an option to restrict skin downloads to the smaller ones, which after all, are 1/4 the download.

You're right, it defeats having them if you can't see them.

It also means if you go to the trouble of doing an excellent camouflage to match the likely terrain, you miss out on its benefits. An IL2T done in green-brown while over sea is obvious, even on a "no icons" game.

cheers,
Tony

LOL, Back in the day I had skins to match, ugly but effective. Took screen shots of the water, trees, and grasslands. Made those into 512x512 skins- no detail, but the water one especially effective in an I-16 around that one map- enemy bases across the big bay.

I run custom skins all time. 1024 ones too. Unless server post not too. When I host I allow custom skins. I only ask that they match the axis ally theme. I really hate a full real or close to it when guys don't pay attention to their markings. I was in one last night flying axis and two allies where running around in zeros with japan markings. Major pain in the arse to get shot by a falsely marked opponent. I was in a zero with jap markins they could of least had the knowlede to pay attention.

Well LOL that explanes why you looked like my friend instead of foe. I was on axis side. You was allied dressed as axis. And I wasn't complaining about you and only you. It happens on alot of servers.

We did have a good time in the ohoh7 server though us two in b- 239 and you two in zero's. We was joking the whole time behind you saying they don't see us. LOL Bounce 3 seconds later both you had new planes. Then we circled back the way we did before. And found you two seperated again. 5 seconds later you had another chance to fly.

I was wondering though Why you bailed out so quick I didn't get the visual of creating much damage to you. Was I hitting you or the engine, ect.

Ps I always have a good time flying against the WUAF, nice bunch of guys, even when they are wooping my butt. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well, I think having a flight sim matching a virtual combat is being elitist. Frankly I always thought wonder woman view was a complete waste of all the hard work that goes into a sim. You just model some uber plane, give the options from gunpods to bombs and model a cross hair into it.
Soon enough you'll graduate to the cockpit laddie, soon enough.
We all did /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Snipe, it wasnt a jab- I used to only fly open, and after reading your last post I realized what made me start flying cockpit was a PC upgrade!
Sorry 'ol man, I guess that was being elitest.
