Howdy...

just wondering what the community feels are good match-ups when training in QMB?

at this moment i have PF standalone and am planning on going online after the first of the year (my dial-up subscription runs out and am planning on getting a cable modem), so i'm gonna need some intense Quick Missions to get ready.

i have the Hardball aircraft viewer and have been using it quite a bit and have found it helpful....i am more or less fishing for your opinions.

Do yourself a favour and buy IL2 Forgotten Battles and the Aces Expansion PAck (AEP).

It will give you both Western and Eastern European content, more maps, more ground objects and a more enjoyable flight sime experiance.

As for Pacific Fighters, my favourite match ups are;

P-40 vs A6M2
F2A vs Ki-43
P-51B vs Ki-61
Spitfire VIII vs Ki-61
P-47 vs everything http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Unless your dialup connection is noisy and prone to packet loss, don't wait for broadband. If you can get half good online while you're on dialup you'll pwn once you get broadband...

If you wanna tougher one try this setup;

You in Yak-1B vs 4Ó”ace Bf-109G-2. You on 100% fuel they on 50%.
And no:
1 Yak-1b

4 Bf-109

But instead:
1 Yak-1b

1 Bf-109
1 Bf-109
1 Bf-109
1 Bf-109

In QMB screen.

Basically I must give ai some kind of advantage (you take more fuel they take less for example). Also every 1v1 matchup in QMB is very easy no matter on settings. The only problem is how to catch ai plane.

H81A-2 versus Ki43I...down low. I can't beat the ace AI in that scenario. So I run away http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It depends completely on how many planes are fighting. 1v1, Bf109 v Spit is great.

LOL yea, at least 4 on each side! U have to paint them like yellow and/or blue, and set infinite ammo! Greatest fun online agree!

I second that. I have participated in several of these, and there is nothing, I repeat, nothing that can match with that level of fun. TB-3 with TB-3 on its tail... both shooting at each other with .. peashooters really. Awesome.

IMHO. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Not so good for PTO, but my favorite match-up was Sturmovik versus Stuka, then Stuka versus Sturmovik.
I couldn't stop laughing after I pulled an Immelmann in the Sturmovik ... whiny dorsal gunner! That was just funny.

best advice i can give you if you want to train up. fly aginst LA-7 ace,I-185 ACe. also try deffernt planes to get to know there ups and downs when flying aginst them but try to pick a single plane or just a few to realy dedacate your self to. IMO and my advice if you like to fly red p-38late,spit,yak-3 for late war servers. i think that would give you good coverge. for blue FW190D or A8,ki84A,zero.

you will want to learn at least one plane very well from each of the major countrys do to fixed/ historical pl;ane sets.

now there are (better) fighters than the ones i listed such as la-7 instead of yak or ki84B instead of A how ever were talking traing. if you get good in a yak youll be great in a la-7...well you could be a n00b useing the key bord and youd still do fine in a la-7 lol

Hi Jds,
I know almost all tell you that playing IL2 online is just about impossible on a 56k modem, but it is just not true at all. IL2 is a very friendly 56k game if you know what your doing. If you do what I suggest, you will have a great experience online. 1. Buy an external US Robotics modem(most successful ones are the old sportsters that can be had at old computer shops or online order...I got mine for 10 bucks at an old computer shop). 2. Get a internet service provider that is good(att.net, earthlink.net, msn are just a few good ones....make sure you don't get one of the cheap ones, they are cheap for a reason, believe me.) 3. Set your modem up to the old v.34 standard in the advanced controls of your modem(init. string of S32=98 is suffice on a us robotics one). It will not sign on faster than 28.8, but that is plenty good enough for gaming online and it is very stable that way. No packet loss is way more important than a very low ping. You can have your modem sign on at very high conn. speeds(near 56k), but then the conn. will spike and cause lag, so trust me, 28.8 is what you want. If you do these three things stated, you will have a blast flying online with other friends and foe's on a 56k modem. The only thing that is a problem is that most use ventrillo or teamspeak to communicate with, but they are bandwidth hogs and cause problems with a 56k if you try to use them, so get roger wilco instead for flying with your friends, and it works great for 56k modem.
Get IL-2 FB + AEP and merge the three programs together though, because that's what all people are flying online. If you get on using just PF, you will be flying solo most of the time. I hope this helps. Give this a try and you will be well pleased on a 56k for now until you can get your cable. Being online playing with your friends in an online war(DCG) just can't be beat with this game. Good luck and have fun my friend.

I just had some fun flying P38L Late vs ace Ki100 both with 25% fuel, limited ammo. I could've sworn the AI was energy fighting me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.
Having just done the reverse match it was interesting to see the Ki100 barreling like crazy when I couldn't get it to roll very quickly.

Normally I prefer FWs or 109s against Spits or La7s or Yak3s, but the field mod Hurri is great fun as well against 109s.

My favourite matchups are those which pit two planes with opposing fighting styles.

EG P-40 v A6M (would be better if the Zero's dive was sorted out though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ) or Spit/Seafire vs J2M2
