For any of you lucky enough to live in God's country on Vancouver Island, BC - this Sunday is the annual open house at the Spitfire Y2K project in Comox by the Airforce base.

http://www.y2kspitfire.com/

Not only will you get to see the Spit 9 that is getting rebuilt, but there will be 11 (yes eleven) Spitfire pilots - including the famous Stocky Edwards (of African front fame - who I believe was the top scoring allied ace there) and Spitfire ace Art Sager (authur of a great book - Line Shoot - and a buddy of mine).

Open house starts at 12 noon. I'm going with an other old friend who was a B25 pilot during the war. Look for the 40 year old and the 80 year old. I'll be the one drooling openly in front of the Spit.

I went to this last year and it was a total zoo. Impossible to get good pictures but there are cool old pilots to talk to.

You were drooling all the time when I met you.

Long weekend -- long waits for the B.C. Ferries. Would be worth it though. Maybe next time.

Every year I see a Spit XVI flying as it is based just across the river. Sometimes it is with a P-51 or a Hurricane.

Hey is that Porter's Spit?

I was in Ottawa at that time (from 02 to 05) and did some biz with him...had a chance to chat with him on BoB day at the museum.

Great guy...greater museum. Nothing like that out here I'm afraid.
But I think we have more WW2 vets out here...being the retirement capital and all.

Yes Jenson.

A friend is suppose to take me to his hanger in Gatineau but he doesn't have much time. Says I could most likly get to sit in the Spit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

Its just a couple hundred yards North of the main gate of CFB Comox. If I remember correctly. If your facing the main gate, turn right, its up 200yds on the left side.
