View Full Version : I need some settings advice for my ATI

I have an ATI 9700 Pro, but it runs on a little older system. An Asus a7v266 MoBo, ADM xp2400 chip, and 1.5 gig of pc 2100 DDR RAM. I just installed the 4.12 Beta Cat driver.

I've often fought with the settings to get optimal frame rates. But with PF I have been having a hell of a time. I can't seem to find a good mix between good eye candy and competitive frame rates.

A big part of the problem is that I have no idea what each setting in IL2 set up, and ATI control panel mean. I read things on the internet, and change the settings accordingly, but eventually just have the system tweaked to where I have no idea what I'm doing anymore.

Coastie has a nice presentation with pics at airwarfare. Should get you to the place you want to be.

ATI 9800 non pro (Coasties PF perfect settings updated 03/11/04)

(The 9700 pro settings you see there are not for PF. Don't use them.)

I'll give that a look, but I can't run perfect. Right now on Excellent I'm only getting an average of 21 fps on TheBlackDeath. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I run everything on perfect on a 850 MHZ Duron and I get 17 fps with tem planes in the air and I think it's running very well with occasional stutter or drops. I can't wait til I upgrade and get 21 fps.

ok, I tried Coastie's 9800 settings for perfect. I get 16 fps average on TheBlackDeath. If I drop to Excellent I get 18 fps average. So thats moving backwards.

Seems the explosions drop me down to single digits, if that makes any sense.

I also recently bought a new ATI card and was looking for a good function/tweak reference. Some of the good folks here sent me this link, which I now forward to you.

ATI Tweak Guide (http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html)

There is a good post somewhere around here that covers the IL2 Setup tab in detail - I can't seem to find it - suggest you try a search.

Good luck.

I got a big performance increase following the tweak guide link above by following its directions on uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. Who would have thought learning how to do a complete clean install of a video cards drivers would give an increase. Worth a try, imho.
