Get Rise of Nations. DO NOT get Vice City. Biggest waste of money I've made in a long while. Sold it back to EB to recoup some losses.

Glad Ven isn't here because I have just enough time to slip this in.

By the way, Forgotten Battles is like the air portion of this game /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Blitzkrieg is good, but I think Combat Mission:Barbarossa to Berlin would be a more accurate strategy game, although not as pretty.

Blitzkrieg is kinda repetitive.

For strategy, get CMBB. But i have to say, if you want something RTS-y then CMBB is not it at all!

You are right,' said Pangloss, 'for, when man was placed in the Garden of Eden, he was placed there ut operaretur eum, to dress it and keep it; which proves that man was not born for idleness.' 'Let us work without theorizing," said Martin, 'tis the only way to make life endurable.'"-- Voltaire, Candide

Rise of Nations is one of THE best strategy games to ever come out. Right up there with C&C, AoE, Starcraft, and WC3.

Is it decent? I'd been eying it, but the last game I bought from that developer was Legion. I was all excited until I realized I'd payed $40 for a 1993 quality game in 2002. The graphics sucked. It wasn't historically accurate. It wasn't balanced. The battle setup was absurd. And it got boring after about 5 minutes when you realized that an all-archer army could decimate any other force in the game.

Rise of nations is MUCH faster than many presume, its MUCH quicker that AOE, and even faster than AOM, and way more complicated with all the units, i liek it though.

DONT GET VICE CITY, sure its fun , but if you played GTA3, the 'novelty' of vice city will wear off in days if not hours.

It's also graphically inferior...which is weird, since it's a later game.

I don't think that adding some more strippers, replacing the cars, adding motorcycles, and 80's music calls for a new release. It just didn't feel right.

Well, if you want to "get serious" with strategy games you can grab Steel Panthers III: world at war. If you compare graphics with everything you see now you heart will lose some tick, because it's really horrible... But, well, game mechanics are THE BEST ever implemented in a wargame.

And, best of all, it's free!!! You can grab it here (http://www.matrixgames.com/games/WorldAtWar/)!

All of this until WWII: RTS doesn't come out...

But I hope that AI will be a bit more realistic than that of our beloved rear gunners, I'd like to see enemy artillery miss sometimes! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well Panzzzz... the graphics in hearts of iron are nothing special.. as most pure strategy games. But the historical accuracy is without par, and it is very well balanced, with a half decent AI. If your looking for lots of flair, I'd probably steer clear of it.

m preddy. Do me a favor, those are all good, but i have to recommend turn based `Medieval Total War.

Strategy, diplomacy and you can control thousands of soldiers on the battlefield.

Rome Total War will be out at the end of the year.If you are not familiar with it do a little search atleast and check it out.

oh c'mon man , you gotta love Fever 105 !
i played vice city out in 2 weeks , and its is quite good
butt to start all over again , hhm think not
the music is great though !

for strategy = when i played the blitzzkrieg demo it looked awful and i find the gameplay worse than the first sudden strike (i played the SS1 demo for weeks!)

AoM is nice butt i lost interest when i reached the norish campaign , WC3 is great if you haven't played that b4 , and the expansion looks good to

i suggest you download the rise of nations demo , see how that game looks ( haven't played it yet)

m_preddy, you'll love it. I've completely lost track of time playing it and gone from the Medieval age right through to the Nuclear age and had a blast. A very intelligent and immersive game indeed.

Blitzkrieg is excellent - the attention to detail very cool. Its quite buggy(well it was for me) but it more than makes up for it in gameplay. The Kursk level as the Russians is a good highlight - you'll soon begin to understand how strong Tiger tanks really were.

I've played the Blitzkrieg demo. It doesn't look too bad to me and I reckon I'd get value out of it. Don't know if it'd ever become my outright favourite, though.

I also have the Rise of Nations demo, not yet had time to play it much - but my son loves it. It seems to be very fast paced, from what I've seen over the boy's shoulder.

Other strategy games I've got, played and enjoyed are:

Gettysburg!
Age of Empires + Rome expansion
Age of Kings + Conquerors expansion
Cossacks European Wars (much better when you add 'The Art of War' expansion)
1503AD The New World

Best regards to all,

I like Rise of Nations but Medieval Total War puts you right in the action.

He asked about Blitzkrieg and Rise of Nations is close to it. Isn't Medieval Total War turn-based? Anyways, no I haven't played it but have heard great things about it.

Either way Rise of Nations is a goodie. Just played a round actually and of course came out victorious through my exceptional educational systems as well as my hard working miners and lumberjacks who made it possible for me to assemble a serious military that then went abroad and ransacked all the opponents capital cities before they knew what hit them /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
