View Full Version : GUNS and CANNON CONVERGANCE ???

Hi Folks,

Have a thought concerning at what range the weapon convergance is best set.

I've noticed that anything (at least for myself) set over 250 is not really knocking anything down.

At times 180 seems the best for aircraft, but seems a bit to little when strafing ground targets. Here 280 or 300 seems to be okay.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

I know the men of the 332nd set thiers for 250 yards or less. I have mine at 200.

Actually, looks like you have the hang on it. Convergence is personal. Depending on the mission, I will adjust it based on bomber interception, ground attack and A2A fighting to name a few.

It's important to hit at a range thats comfortable for you, so convergence really becomes important for a/c like the P-51, Fw-190, P-47 and others that have wing mounted weapons.

(Note*: The P-47 uses Weapon 1 to fire half it's guns and Weapon 2 to fire the other half, inboards and outboards. That means you can set them independently.)

I believe that convergence also works for the big nose mounted cannon. Since the round arcs, it will set how far out the round travels before it intersects the sight, but I'm not as familiar with those. I prefer to work for my kills. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Depends completely what you are flying. I set convergence to 500 or even 1000m for inner guns and 150-200 for outer when flying Fw190A. Fore wing mounted weapons, firing outside prop-disc, I usually use 180m. On P47 I use 280 and 160m.

Mine is set at 300, but that's as far out as I'm willing to push it.

As the examples above demonstrate, there are many facters to convergence:

a, Type of plane. (makes a big difference)
b, gun type.
c, How close you like to get to the enemy plane. Some like to fire quite early on wheras others like to be real close.
d, Other facters.

Usually I stay at around 250 for cannons, 200 mgs and 100 when using the big gun on a p39.

I keep my friends close and my enemies closer! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

I used to change them around for the different weapons, planes, etc. and then I just decided to set them to 150M (cannons and machine guns). Instead of adjusting, I just got used to using the 150M setting with all guns. Ground attack can get a little hairy but its definitely doable once you get used to it and if the mission is going to be heavily ground attack based just set convergance a little further out.
