I finally encountered some sub nets around Scapa.

Do they get added later? I took a spin through Scapa in 1940 and didn't find anything (even ships http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

This was around April of 1941. They kinda took me of guard.

How do you get around or under this particular one? Over it?

Can't go over it, the sub's draft is too deep. However, there is a gap in it about 1 kilometer west.

I can confirm that they exist from the very beginning of the game on. I cruised into Scapa Flow during my 2nd patrol in early Oct '39 in my IIA...well, attempted to cruise in. The nets sort of stopped me. There is a gap in the very middle of the channel, however.

If you approach from the west (after sailing around Scotland to its north) the southern channel (at the mouth of the western approach) has some mines in it as well (no screenies tho).

I havent found any nets so far, but I will try SP Mission now, with patch 1.2, and see, if nets are there. Great pictures, BTW. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I did the single mission to Scapa flow yesterday and didn't encounter a sub net. Then again, I may have found the gap without knowing it. I entered from the east side and up that way. I have yet to patch the game and am running it straight from the original install.

Yeah, there aren't any nets in the original install, I think that was one of the things that they fixed.

You'll definately know when you've found one. You're cruising around at periscope depth when all of a sudden you hear a grinding noise and your speed drops to nothing.

I am playing the Scapa single-mission right now (taken the route like Hoatee describes above), and - apart from a few mines at that mouth of the W-approach, I haven't encountered any nets yet.
There were 4 coastal-defence guns along the N-shore.
I was travelling in 20m deep water all the time, not at periscope-depth, but at 11m...which is just enough to hide my conningtower (calm sea, wind 4kts).

I'm about 1hr in distance away from ScapaFlow, but I've had 2 occasions, where I jumped from my seat, as I heard that awfull noise!
But...there was nothing to be seen, no damage to my boat, and no speed-drop... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Do you get serious damage from hitting a sub net?
