Good question - other than the fact that the first one looks like it's in a naval color scheme (and therefore should be designated a PB4Y rather than a B-24) and the second one looks like it's in a more typical USAAF color scheme (in which case, how likely would it be that we kaleuns would see one so why would it be included?), they look pretty much the same to me. I've never encountered either one in game as far as I know (I've only gotten to late 1942 so far in three careers, and I usually dive as soon as I get an aircraft spotted warning anyway so I hardly ever actually see what kind of plane it is) - are those in the stock game or were they added by one of the mod packages?

Notice also that the first example has American stars on the wings and fuselage, but RAF markings on the tail - identity crisis?

My guess is that two types were included due to the possible use of two varients that were used against the U Boats. USAAF bombers (and RAF) were used to bomb the bunkers at the U Boat bases while the Naval version was used by Coastal Command and the US Navy for ASW duties.

Its the B-24 with improved range used by the allies to close the "air-gap" over the atlantic.
