As you all have guessed I am a sucker for crapplanes, most certainly biplane crapplanes. I never did own Red Baron (3d) but stumbled on to this per chance and it really made me think wheather I should get it. Have anyone of you any experiance with Red Baron and this Super Patch?

Hmmmm, interesting. Runner up in the 2003 flight sim of the year thing. Hmmm. Not bad screenies. Hmmm. WWI. Hmmm. I'm tempted.

Not sure mate but it certainly seems to fill a gap in the Flight sim market.Didnt see any Zeps or blimps though which for my money look great in sims but I guess I am just a balloon fetishist.

The Full Canvas Jacket patch is a wonderful add-on for RB3D. If you have a hankering for WWI action with some stunning looking aircraft and a TRULY dynamic campaign/mission generator then I highly recommend it.

The hard part if finding a copy og RB3D. There are Valueline versions but they need to be "coaxed" into working on XP. Kess has a lot of that info at his site.

I actually have been flying RB3D again since his patch after about a 3 year hiatus. Using a GLIDE wrapper like dgvoodoo really makes it shine.

Whatever you do, don't get Red Baron II and patch it to RB3D if you want to fly online...issues with objects you destroy not turning up destroyed for other players.

Concur with WWSensei, though the version I have was the once free "Promised Land". I am considering purchasing the "Full Canvas Jacket" as I'm sure it has even more updates to the sim. Red Baron is the best WWI sim out there, and in some cases, namely the Dynamic Generator, far superior to anything else still.
Highly recommend it if you're even curious about WWI flight.

tell haddock to make a wwi addon 10 planes get ianboys to make 5-6 maps and make a wwi addon exp pack http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif This game engine is perfect for a wwi addon, small square maps seem huge with wwi ac, no high alt graphics

I'd buy it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I actually have RedBaron I, II, 3d....and flew it online till I came here with IL2FB's debut as LE~Billfish~Com, part of the 124th, Lafayette Escadrille Squadron.

Promised land had many many very impressive aspects to it...RedBaron as well. As an example, flak in the "pre" FCJ PL patch makes IL2's even with the new updates look pitiful. It was actually frieghtening and would make you jump even able to see shrapnel zipping out from it.

FCJ I never tried, though suppose I should. Yet that is just a tiny bit of what the RB3d community developed and ALL without any access to source codes. A great example is Flanders in Flames, the folks that put that together developed models and FMs of virtually every plane used during the war, some extremely odd, and use them in their series of wars naturally building the FM/DM's to make them playable.

More so, ground and air objects are made that work and have affect on the sim. Sadly some items lost over time...(My favorite you're flying over No Mans Land and look down and see out of one side of trenches perhaps 1,000 tiny dots swarming out. then on the opposite side saw the same heading toward the others. When you'd swoop down you'd see they were "individual men"...and could straffe taking out 1 at a time).

The campaign generator was also very impressive. You could litterally fly the entire war, and say go back to a building you bombed a year before and it would still be flattened...Amazing.

However, Sierra/Dynamix or whomever they sold the rights to decided to get out of the flight sim market...Canning the staff...WIth the staff went the codes, and the ability to really work with the software with ease.

To find RB3d now you'll have to look in the bargain bins...You know, 5 titles for a buck kinda things. That is if you can even find it. It also will require you either have a Voodoo card or use "Glidos" a "Glide" mimicing program as the game requires Glide to fly at it's best settings.

Due to that, the community is dwindling, work on the sim dying, and the numbers who fly it online fading many here. However as old as it is it still keeps chugging along. The reason the community....

For further information I'd suggest you start here.....http://www.wings-of-valor.net/ ...It WILL be well worth your while and shame on me for not getting back more often.

Every part of Red Baron has been changed by the community.
We need WWI planes in IL-2.

I got that patch, played with it for a few hours and forgot about it ever since. It was a waste of money. Sure it's better than the original game but not as good as I was expecting it to be. Bad memories http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I have never been able to get my copy of RedBaron 3D to work with WindowsXP, was told by several that its only do able with the full canvas upgrade.
Everytime I've been on the verge IcMaddox has come up with something new for me to get all involved in and I end up shelving the idea.

As for the game its always been one of my all time favorites and thats playing it 2 years without being on line for any patches and trust me it needed some badly.

People complain about gunsights and planes being 4 mph to slow with IL-2 products...In RedBaron 3D if you selected a French carrer somwhere around your 3rd YEAR , say that with me y.e.a.r and something like 300+ missions flown it would generate your next mission and when you hit fly.....your entire flights airfield had morphed into a mountain side http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
All you could do is watch all your squad try and taxi down a Mt, crash and burst into flames...then just sit there and try not to cry.
Now thats a bug.

"Full Canvas Jacket" ?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

That kills me. So, in WWI bullets were jacketed with canvas? Whatever... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
