I would like to see a mod for super tankers like :- Hellespont Fairfax. It boasts a deadweight tonnage of 442,470 tonnes. Imagine the weight fully loaded and the kill weight on your end of your patrol http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Saw the documentary about the building of Hellespont Fairfax. I wonder if, in light of all its damage control systems, double hull construction, etc. a WW2 torpedo could sink it? Well, maybe a dumb question on my part; in theory any ship can be sunk. I'm just curious as to whether modern ship construction has made such leaps. Of course, torpedo technology has also improved.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

to sink it youd have to hit it on both sides with at least 22 torpeados maby more<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

or hit the same spot twice, one for each hull. But then again, the Titanic had a double hull and all the bells and whistles and it sank with one hit by a mischieveous iceberg.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

it had a double bottom hull the sides were single it did have a fancy watertight compartments but the way the iceberg ripped small holes along 3 or 4 of them did her in<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Damn the iceburgs (and the torpedoes), Full Speed ahead.....

This truly will be a "Night to Remember..."

It appears the Titanic not only ripped her side open but ran up onto a submerged Ice Shelf which damaged her double buttom. The cracked plates assured her doom as when she lifted her stern end the damaged bottom allowed her to crack along a seamed section and settle down fairly level even as her bow began to wrench loose.

Recent undersea submersible explorations and photography of compression on the hull sections and determinations of the damaged sections locations along the bottom have proven our conception of how she sank now needs a major overhaul.

With regards to Torpedoes Delayed action detonations allow modern topedoes to breach hulls and detonate inside allowing the overpreassure to rupture hull plates all along the hull. Shaped charges and much higher velocity explosives assure kills with seldom more than one hit. Rumored nuclear torpedoes with 1-2 Kiloton yields also make surface vessels easy fodder for todays Silent Hunters weapons...
