To make the start up items not load when u turn on yuor pc.
1.type msconfig on the run menu.
2.click on the general tab.
3.Select the Selective Startup.
4.Uncheck the load start up items.

Then click apply then restart the pc and u never have to wait for the antivirus to pop up before u can run Il2. This will also save memory so u can use it to play the game more smoothly.

This also doesnt effect any other settings exept the start up items.

Noooo.....That might knock out some important aspects like firewalls and such. Take your time when you do it. Find things such as printers and so on, odd little programsnot needed to run the PC but NOT antivirus/spyware/firewalls....and turn them off. That only means you must use them to have them start up.....Yet once started will need to reboot to clear them.

Also, look at services, turn off what you don't want running in the background as well....Automatic updates, and messenger services biggies....You can always turn them back on if you discover you want them to stage after, yet don't shut it all down.

Now, that done and rebooted, when you want to play THEN manually shut down antivirus and spyware and other things you might use normally that start when the PC boots....You can even do that in cntl+alt+del.......

Quickly you'll learn you don't need a lot of that pc running in day to day activities....I leave it that way and manually shut down the important things.

Two free applets that I have used for a number of years. Best thing since sliced bread!

Assuming you want to close down running programs and services before you start your IL2 session, and not at system start up, try FSAutostart (http://www.fsautostart.com).

FSAutostart is a configurable utility that will stop running processes and programs that you designate, start programs and processes that you want to start when you run your game, start your game for you, then restore the system to its original configuration when you quit your game.

It was originally written for Flight Simulator but works perfectly fine with IL2. I've been using it for about six months, have had no problems with it at all, and have been meaning to write a review of it, started but never finished.

We have permission from the author to host the program on our site but I've never gotten around to that, either. Maybe I need to get off the dime?

There are other utilities that do a similar job, and probably some that are easier, but FSAutoStart certainly works.

If you can't reach the author's home page (it's down as I'm typing this), drop me a PM and I'll send you a copy.

FSAutostart can also start/stop programs such as TrackIR software, Shoot, or teamspeak that you want to run with Il-2. Makes for a convienient one click start rather than trying to remember all the secondary programs when you start the program.

I got off my backside and posted a link to FSAutostart on our site (http://www.352ndfg.com/IL2). You can obtain a copy in our Technical Downloads section (a direct link is on the front page in the "What's New" column.

Blue skies!!
