we need to know if it is IL2 or Forgotten Battles that you have got as they are two different sims.

Welcome to the Madhouse M8http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes you are behind but all is not lost. If you really enjoy IL2. You will probably want to get Forgotten Battles + the Ace Expansion Pack which are the new & improved IL2 whith loads more aircraft & extra's,to many to list. Then you can merge Pacific Fighters into Forgotten Battles & Ace Expansion Pack for even more goodies.

A note for when your wandering around here you will see this a lot

FB = Forgotten Battles
AEP = Ace Expansion Pack
PF = Pacific Fighters

I dont know if there are many servers running the original IL2. someone might be able to tell you different.but if you do like IL2 a lot & you live in the US you will be able to get the gold pack which include FB/AEP.

As a merged install of PF/AEP/FB there are roughly around 145 flyable aircraft including variants. So if you really get into IL2 you will find all the others worth having & you can then kiss your social life goodbyehttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If you check out the history on the main page it will explain what has evolved with IL2 better than I can.

Okay, now that everybody has told you to go buy three more sims (which you should http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ), here is information about the version you have right now:

Get the 1.1a upgrade patch and then the 1.2 upgrade patch from here (http://www.il2sturmovik.com/games_elts/updates.php). Add the optional 1.2ov patch over v1.2 if you wish to add custom language files from third party sites.

"Operation Barbarossa" by Matrix Games is the only commercial 'add-on' for IL-2 Sturmovik; it adds more missions and some online skins.

The disadvantage of IL-2 Sturmovik is that it is not further expandable, and not compatible with Forgotten Battles (essentially a re-release of IL-2 with more stuff) or the later AEP and Pacific Fighters.

Put the Sturmovik Essentials link in my sig on your favorites list..... good stuff there.. all in one link so as not to clutter up your favorites menu. Welcome aboard..

It seems to be getting harder to find the Gold Pack here in the US as well because local stores don't normally restock slow-moving/niche games unless you ask them to reorder. The small Sam Goody store where I got mine still has 3 copies. Makes me feel sort of bad because they ordered those games on my request. I'm very tempted to go buy the two copies of AEP (they had 3, sold one to me, and haven't sold another copy since http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif), and the three copies of the Gold Pack that they have never sold to pass them on to the guys that may need them here at the forum. (Just need more money to do that. I also need to check at the store to ensure that they are still there.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

Also, it looks like you have already received a great welcome here. These boards have the greatest community of any official "gaming" forum on the web http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif. However, we are very anal about minute details, right down to the number of rivets on our planes. Be prepared to see alot of threads that will make you shake your head at what seems trivial complaining. Those threads are the reason that we have this great simulation. 1C Maddox Games pays attention to those threads, and attempt to use our feedback to improve the simulation via patches/free addons.
