Who said it was?

These look to be little other than descriptions of the new patch.

No..., it's not dead, it's just that it's dying. A Fkin slow death I grant you, but a death none the less.

SoW will be the final nail in the coffin mods or not, just wait and see.

My friend it is you who has missed the point.

The release date was irrelevant, the similarity via genre was and is the point.

Oh, I see - I was merely pointing out that I believe Il-2/FB will survive and 'improve' whether another flight sim is released or not, using the TW series as an example which can form a valid foundation for my belief, based upon my experiences in the genre (p.c. gaming per say, not a specified niche market). I unreservedly apologise for any confusion caused by my thoughtless lack of clarity and trust we can all move on from this unfortunate misunderstanding, working in common cause to better the flight sim experience for all interested parties - as long as the Westland Whirlwind is not criminally overlooked yet again in favour of aircraft which, quite frankly, have no place in a collection purporting to maintain historical and aerodynamic accuracy. Cheers.

Unless SoW comes with a cheque for $2000 in every box for a new computer, there will be many thousands of people still playing and supporting Il-2 for a long time to come. I may well wind up being one of them.

Il2 has still not lived its full life. It has quite a few years left in it.

I think you all missed the point. The point of the original poster was that "Il-2 Sturmovik" and "Il-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles" have been re-released. This game we are playing now isn't either, because either one of those games aren't compatible with it. Il-2 was a standalone game released in 2001, and it's last patch was 1.22, released in 2002. FB was released in 2003, and for it was made 3 (three) official add-ons, Aces Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters (which can also be used as a stand-alone game) in 2004. Pe-2 pack was released in 2006, but then...

The game we play has basicly the same engine as Il-2 or FB had, but technically it's a different product, because it's the only thing you need to buy to get all the stuff currently in the series. Couple of patches have been made and couple of more will come in the future, I hope.

What I missed was the point of these re-releases... more like re-re-re-re-releases of ancient games. Re-releasing old games is a nice thing if they're good ones (like those really are) BUT when the game what we now have

1) uses the same engine, being very light in PC performance requirements
2) has ALL the content those games had
3) is found very cheaply in internet / shops...

there seems to be no point.

UBI perhaps seems to think that getting an extra $10 from new customers is worth honking them off when they find out about 1946.
That is the kind of thing some marketing genius (IQ around 95) would do.

OTOH there are a lot of PCs out there that I wouldn't try running 1946 on especially laptops that don't run full speed or
have the graphics power required.

But really Christmas is coming and there's lots of CLUELESS people looking to buy presents. It's that or socks.

Exactly Gunz.
So let's guess altogether, what will be the most common question on these forums betwee Xmas and New Year?

"Why my IL-2 is not compatible online? I have 1.04 /1.22 in the lower left corner"

And let's guess the most ironic questions also!

"Quick, quick, I just found a fault in my IL-2, freshly bought for Xmas by my Mom/Dad, can someone tell me the phone number to the bug reporting hotline? Someone MUST fix this urgently!!!!"

Keeping these old version in circulation is a calculated rip-off, sorry to say...
If your PC cannot run IL-2 '46 in lowest graphics and only small number of planes, you probably don't even have a joystick either...

It costs about 30 to get a good power supply of 700W. Then get yourself a GTX260 or so which costs around 100. Bob's your uncle you can play SoW easily.

Hey Crazy Schmidt! Have you updated your Mission Mate program for the latest 4.09 patch release?

I love the Mission Mate add-on, BTW.

I'm still working on it. Some of the map info has been altered since the beta, I'm having to completely redo the MTO map for example.

It's moving slowly but it is moving.

It will take time until you can fly a Sturmovik over the eastern front again in an another sim.

As was announced, Team Daidalos is still active and maybe they plan further things http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Plus theres a free WW1 add-on mod project (Canvas knights) for Il-2 1946...
